No wonder Wally stuck with JC all those years.... The amount that a CFL OC would receive pales in comparison to that HC salary by CFL standards. Plus the next step up offers a considerable increase I would imagine, along with numerous opportunities in comparison to the CFL's 8/9 jobs. In fact why does the CFL get any OC's with credibility?SammyGreene wrote:Nussmeier is also making serious coin as UW's OC.
And Nussmeier is under contract through the 2011 season. Holt's addendum was signed last month and also changed some other clauses in his contract, notably that if he leaves during the last year of his contract he will have to pay back 25 percent of the last 12 months of his salary (this is a correction of the earlier post). There is also a provision that his salary will be reviewed each year (he has a base of $350,004 plus getting $300,000 annual compensation for "consultations, appearances and representation'' on behalf of the school.
Nussmeier will receive $300,000 this season (and apparently now next year, as well).
Who Will Be the New OC?

We look at those CFL coordinator positions from a fan football perspective, judging their performance, but when one looks at the salary, the hours, the one year contracts, the lack of job security....it does make one wonder why most would want to do it.Rammer wrote:No wonder Wally stuck with JC all those years.... Nice research SammyGreene. Just as I thought. If you're coaching a big school in the States, you're going to be making some pretty serious coin, even as a coordinator. I couldn't see him coming back to the CFL unless it was to become HC.SammyGreene wrote:And Nussmeier is under contract through the 2011 season. In case anyone's wondering why the name "Doug Nussmeier" would surface in the first place, Doug played back-up quarterback here in BC in 2000 (to Damon Allen), then became our QB coach, before moving onto the Ottawa Renegades where he was the O-coordinator. The big lefty is from the Northwest too (Portland OR) and would be coaching a fellow Oregonian (Travis Lulay).

If I'm not mistaken he was also the last FG holder for Lui Passaglia. If you still have the box that LP's Babooshka Doll souvenir from 2004 came in, you'll see him in a photo on the side of that box wearing #13 and holding for Lui.David wrote:In case anyone's wondering why the name "Doug Nussmeier" would surface in the first place, Doug played back-up quarterback here in BC in 2000 (to Damon Allen), then became our QB coach, before moving onto the Ottawa Renegades where he was the O-coordinator. Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
