Yes. Time in the pocket is essential. We will soon see if the Lions have quick outlets prepared. Check downs. Rollouts. Or just ''Run the play as designed. It will work if you execute it well.'' We will see the number of pressures, hits and sacks Jennings takes.Blitz wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 11:44 am
To score points on the Eskimos, the key is to pass block their very good defensive line well. Their defensive line runs a lot of stunts and twists. Almondo Seewell gets very good penetration and he is a pocket disrupter. He has to be double teamed if he lines up against Fabian.
Odell Willis, their sack leader, has to be chipped if he lines up against Palmer, either with a back or by a receiver.
To beat the Eskimos defense, the key is time to throw. Zone defenses break down if they have to defend for too long. Receivers can find the seams in the zone.
If we roll out the same DL scheme, with soft zone behind, our hopes are dim.Defensively, we need to mix things up on Reilly and not just play straight up zone. Combination man/zone coverages with false reads would pay dividends. We need to pay special attention to Zykstra, who leads the CFL in receiving and is also 2nd in the CFL in yards behind Andrew Harris in yards after catch.
We also can't just drop Sol E and Awe in deep underneath zone coverage because Reilly is 2nd in quarterback rushing in the CFL and he will use his legs to get key first downs.
Without pass rush pressure Reilly can use the whole field. And he can run when the opportunity is there.
The Eskimos will plan to make Solly run sideline to sideline.
No matter our situation, it will be interesting. All the subplots fade to the background, as the guys take the field, and put their pride and bodies on the line.
