I was sticking to bands. But I forgot to list Them. I have a bunch of their stuff. It's all fantastic.Lionheart wrote:Astonishing no one has Van the Man.

I love their first album -- I think it was the first time I heard a woman swear in a rock song.pinkfreud wrote:The Pretenders
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
"Don't Get Me Wrong" makes me happy happy. It's so upbeat.sj-roc wrote:I love their first album -- I think it was the first time I heard a woman swear in a rock song.pinkfreud wrote:The Pretenders

Yeah, there were some good tunes on that album... too bad they decided to continue in the glam-rock vein and churned out a bunch of utter dreck. I was much happier when they brought out "Jupiter's Darling" a few years ago and went back to their original sorta-folk-rock sound - that album was fantastic.

Yeah, "These Dreams"... decent song... way overblown glam production. As a counterpoint, I offer you, "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You". My vote for worst song of all time.
If memory serves, they were effectively "stuck" in Vancouver after they came up here to record (at good ol' Mushroom Studios), and then weren't allowed back across the border.

I still get chills when I hear the intro to Crazy On You. The extended intro that Nancy plays live is incredible.

Great video, Robbie! That was awesome! Damn does Ann look hot then! She's still a pretty fine woman. I swear, I grew up in the wrong decade. Long live the 70s!

First I heard of the Jupiter's Darling album was when PBS played the DVD of their Paramount show in Seattle... Ann really pudged out the last few years, and for a while there all of their videos focused on only her face and used really washed-out effects to hide the fact that she was, quite simply, FAT. Good thing to see in the Paramount show, though, that despite still being significantly overweight, she was no long hiding it - really, she's there because of her amazing vocal talent, and she still has that IN SPADES.
