I hope the CFL comes down hard. If I were in charge, the suspension would be indefinite with further review to come after Masoli plays his next game. Not going to happen, but emotionally, I personally would like this boy's career ended.
There's an article in the Regina Leader Post suggesting the team should suspend him regardless of what CFL does. And based on the reaction of his teammates who ignored him as he left the field, I'm not sure that would be poorly received in that locker room.
With Behar's comments, I think there is a lot more layers to the onion than just this one play. Stegall and Suitor seem equally mad, but have less ammunition to fire and are in positions that require restraint on air.
I think indefinite suspension until all aspects of his behavior are investigated is warranted. If the guy actually spews racist comments as has been insinuated, and his track record of past bad behavior is verified, the Todd Bertuzzi treatment (i.e. league uses this opportunity to set new precedent) should be in order.
I know this isn't directly Lions related, but that play (and subsequent information that's been dispensed) has me a little torqued and I just wanted to express my feelings and maybe see what others thought. Thank you for providing this forum to allow me to do that

Behar mentioned there were racist remarks made under the pile on plays. He also said Marino was saying some unpleasant things the day before the game a The Keg. I'm not a big fan of the flexing after the hit. No room for the game for that stuff.

It was. I recall Marino being on the ground and trying to do the classic hockey fight move of pulling the back of Norman's jersey over Phil's head before the punch that led to the ejection. At the time I thought what Marino did wasn't worth getting that mad about but he threw the punch so the ejection was earned. Now I wonder what else did Marino do or say to Norman to make him go so uncharacteristically ballistic.

Marino was ejected from the Banjo Bowl last year too. Additionally, two other clips have now surfaced on Twitter of Marino going after Masoli's legs last year in Hamilton and going after Redblacks' Boyd's knees right after Boyd pancaked Pete Robertson on Friday night; this was just before Marino succeeded in injuring Masoli. Marino is a menace.Hambone wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 1:13 pmIt was. Turned into 4 games.
2 for the hit on Masoli and subsequent celebration.
1 for comments made during the game about Masoli's heritage.
1 for a play on another Ottawa OL a few plays earlier in the game.

That whole series of plays was pretty disgusting. Even back in the days of Murphy and Jimenez, there wasn't such a deliberate attempt to cause an injury. And the MMA/WWE posturing after the ejection has no place in our game. I would not be disappointed if Marino was cut after serving his suspension.

We could start a betting pool as to how long it would take the Elk's Jones to sign Marino if Riders were to cut Marino.Dusty wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:53 amThat whole series of plays was pretty disgusting. Masoli is absolutely right. And shame on the Riders Org.and fans who think that this kind of repeat offending is okay.
Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.
I completely agree. From my original post, you can tell I would have come down harder if I were in charge.Sir Purrcival wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 11:04 amMasoli is absolutely right. And shame on the Riders Org.and fans who think that this kind of repeat offending is okay.
That said, from an historical standpoint, I can live with the punishment the CFL gave. Doubling the longest suspension ever given is technically precedent setting. And my punishment would definitely be appealed and overturned, whereas this one was likely made to both set precedent and increase likelihood of winning any appeal if Saskatchewan is crass and shameless enough to try.
Given my previous impression of the man, Dickenson is the one coming out looking really bad here.
Marino I'm fine with staying silent. Only smart thing he's done. When you're in a hole and somebody (tv, Twitter, etc.) is available for you as a shovel, his decision to stay silent and stop digging makes sense to me.
I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time". So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

Whether he can live up to that remains to be seen but I do commend him for taking the high road and accepting the punishment handed out. He is very talented. It would be a shame to see him waste his career by failing to "to walk the talk" of that apology. I am a bit cynical from being part of the Vancouver market where Matt Cooke and Raffi Torres constantly talked about how theyvwould change there ways then wind up doing something stupid again.

Rider's statement says that Marino's actions don't represent the organization. Um, yes they do as long as he wears your jersey. Especially when your statement comes out a day AFTER your HC said that the team was standing behind Marino and giving him another chance.
The Riders look terrible here, especially Craig Dickenson. If the Riders don't win the Grey Cup at home, and if team discipline is one of the contributing factors to their failure, I wont be surprised if Dickenson gets fired.
