Q1

6 man rush, JJ roll out. Run stuffed, no hole, 8 on second down. Stopped.

Huge return, not a shocker

Good D in the zone. Edm 3-0

Jones has great respect for JJ.

Three man front vs JJ. Two out.

Yell, pick 6. 7-3 BC.

Good pursuit by 44. We disguise our lineup effectively. Wally must have hated that. Punt.

Screwup #2 on STs. Shocked? No.

Bowman for 28. Four man rush only. Deep drops. Menard sack. Awesome. Brooks block.

O. Esks too keen to blitz. Respect for JJ. Collie for 7. 3rd down. We punt.

Four man rush. thirdvdown. They go, and make it. Jones attacks. We play safe. Bowman first down.

Q2

Bomb to Bowman. Gamble on thied pays off. Attacking football. Four man rush. No blitz. Great throw. TD.

Blitz by EE. Two out. Gawd I hate conservative football. Jones attacks. We hope for opponent mistakes. Punt almost blocked, up the middle. Chuck looks so freaked out. We should have farmed him out.

We blitz. Shocker. It is effective. Head shaker.

Run. No hole. Trick play. Wally must have hated that. Nice drive. JJ run. 8 man front. Blitz effective. FG. Tie game.

Four man rush. Deep drops. Easy 19 yards for Bowman. Our drops give running room for EE. Cheap call on Khreem. FG. 13-10.

Pass to Hawkins. Beauty catch by Gore. I have never given upmon him. Collie catch. Jones drops 9.Third and two. FG. Tie game.

200 left in half. Bell explodes. Bad run D. Four man rush, blocked well. Punt. Great return by Iannuzzi. Gore drops one. Opportunity missed. And we don't go for the FG of 50 yards.

Terrible run D by us, but holding. More soft run D. Gotta say, boring game.

We play it safe always. EE seemed to play uninspired football.

At the half ... LaPo showing pressure D by Stubler with Calgary.

Q3

Great escape by Reilly. Great steal by Walker. Decent pressure by our front four, without blitz help. FG. EE 16-13.

EE stuffed our O in 1st half.

Coverage sack. Holding. Two out. Varied D giving us trouble.

Bowman first vs soft cover. Punt. Rainey nice return.

JJ nice throw. Great catch by Gore. JJ avoids the sack. Huge blitz. Pressure stops us. FG miss. Huge return. Penalty.

EE near its goal line. We play soft on Bowman. First down.

Hoffman int, near to TD. Manny TD. Great throw. Missed convert.

Nice work by Fraser on kickoff.

Cheap call on Jabar. We get fooled, 21 for Reilly. We can't cover Bowman. Chambers great catch.

Highlight ... No Andre Proulx.

No Proulx but Bradbury's group has the rep for being the most flag happy in the league this year.

Q4

ST follies for us. Rainey messes around with the kick.

JJ doing a great job moving the ball. Great call in our favour on the penalty. Mistake on handoff. Gawd. Another flag on EE. Ha ha. Ball on 1. Fumble by McGhee. Gawd. Who is doing our short yardage? Is it still Wally? Bad call putting McGhee in. How many snaps has he taken?

Now we have short yardage follies. It just looks like we don't know what we are doing. Looked like a bad snap.

Lee with a pick. Can we possibly lose this game? Oh yeah. Many are the ways. JJ so cool in the pocket. Amazing. 727 left. It is intense. Blitz. And we have no answer. D'oh. Awful. No not receiver. Gawd awful. Horrible.

No yards on the punt. D'oh.

545 left. 20-17 for B.C.

Short of 1st. I expect they will go for it. Close. Reilly almost loses the ball. Reilly kills us with the run. Penalty on EE. 355 left. Short pass, for 8. Deep zone. I don't like it. Bighill gets Reilly. Punt, but will they fake it? Are we ready?

Rainey good return. Can we close it out? JJ good scramble. JJ again.
Ball knocked down on the blitz. Ughhh Good punt and coverage.

Now will we blitz? I doubt it. Deep zone. Four man rush. Penalty on EE. Ha ha ... I luv this ref. LOL Two man rush. Awful. No pressure. 124 left. Reilly scrambles to the 34. 108 left. Pass high. 3rd and 3. No. Penalty on Phillips. 54 left. Cheap call. Hoffman good pressure. 50 left. Pass to Bowman. Ughh. 46 left. They need 12 yards. Pass to Coehorn. In range. 41 left. Bowman again. This is inevitable. Slow death. No blitzing. Reilly plunge. 1st down. Throwaway. 23 left. Bowman again. 16 left. Does Jones go for the win? Wally would not. He would play it "safe." They go for it. 9 seconds left. Great drive by Reilly. He is hurting.

Now, go for the block. Nope. Tie game.

That drive about sucked the life out of Lions' fans.

Overtime.

Missed convert. Didn't go for the punt single. Lucky we got one in the end zone earlier to get the three point lead.

Gheezus, that was a great drive by Reilly. We needed to blitz.

Reilly again for 7. Bell runs over us. Pathetic. Our D looks gassed. Brooks is gassed. Walker at the 3. Brooks is so gassed. FG.

3-0 in overtime for the EE. Esks give close cover. We give miles of room. Knock down in end zone. The EE brought the house. Collie had a shot at it. Tie game.

This does not look good for us. EE blitzes. We do not. And that is the difference. Int. Forde says receivers in the same area by mistake.

Bell runs hard for 9.

Field Goal. EE wins.

I burned myself out in the game thread. It was a game of squandered opportunities. For the sixth time this year, the Lions lost a game after leading in the fourth quarter. Their mistakes were too numerous to mention. They blew it and the Esks won their sixth game in a row, at least three of which were outright steals. That's the difference between good teams and bad. The Esks aren't a more talented team. They just make plays when the game is on the line. And they're definitely better coached.

Mcgee paid tribute to Jarious Jackson, master of the goal line fumble. This team is a joke.

Fire Wally, fire Washington, and release Leone and McGhee.

Still would have had Leone punt for a single and 4 point lead. It would have forced the Eskimos to drive for a TD, which had been elusive for them most of the afternoon.

They made it all the way to our 9 marching from their own 16 — an 85yd drive in 95 seconds. I'm not convinced they couldn't have scored the major with nearly another 20 yards of FP.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Totally agree. If you don't kick it through and Edmonton tries to run it out to avoid giving up the rouge, you still have an opportunity to pin them very deep.

But the coaching decision that cost us the game was the sneak by McGhee. We send out McGhee, tipping our hand as to what the play will be. Edmonton goes offside and smacks our centre so hard he takes out McGhee. So now we know how Edmonton is going to defend the sneak attempt. So of course our bonehead coaches think "hey, let's run the same damn play that would not have worked if Edmonton had not jumped offside". :bang:

Lots to second guess and critique on both teams actually, but I really just want to underscore one belief I've always had:

When on the goal line, LEAVE YOUR STARTING QB ON THE FIELD AND RUN YOUR REGULAR OFFENCE!!
