Re: crossovers, it seems Mtl at the moment poses a bigger crossover threat than Ott to our western playoff berth, especially if we should lose today, which would create some space between Ott in 3rd and Mtl in 4th, and make it easier for Mtl to catch us.
According to this page, right now, going into today's game, teams have the ff estimated chances of making the playoffs:
Ott: 93.0%
Tor: 92.3%
Mtl: 51.6%
BC: 47.4%
Wpg: 18.8%
So Ott are not only head and shoulders above Mtl, but actually slightly better than even Tor at the moment. If we win then the estimated percentages move to:
Ott: 87.9%
Tor: 91.2%
Mtl: 45.8%
BC: 61.2%
Wpg: 17.2%
OTOH if Ott win:
Ott: 97.7%
Tor: 93.4%
Mtl: 57.1%
BC: 34.2%
Wpg: 20.5%
Mtl currently trail Ott in the eastern standings, so what I'm about to say is a bit ironic but Mtl's chances of making the playoffs improve with an Ott win and worsen with an Ott loss, but only because Ott's game is against BC and its outcome therefore impacts Mtl's crossover prospects, which is Mtl's easier route into the playoffs than overtaking Ott. If Ott were playing anyone else today (except possibly Wpg) Mtl would be wanting them to lose.
We can go to either 61.2% or 34.2% after today so this game, just like Mtl last week represents a huge swing for our playoff hopes.

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

If the Leos game plan on defense is to play that Wally vanilla zone...then Hank will pick them apart, as Ottawa's receivers will just find the seam between zones, and hunker down until Burris delivers the ball with scary accuracy

Seahawks lose OT thriller and John Beck looking like John Beck. A 1st down would be nice.
