Here is a look at the potential free agents released by the Canadian Football League on Monday. The official free agency period kicks off at 9 p.m. Pacific time on Tuesday, February 15. Below is a list of players who can become free agents if they don't re-sign with their current teams before then. Defensive end Ricky Foley of the Lions, the Canadian player of the year in 2009, will be one of the prime, free-agent catches. But contrary to earlier statements he made in November, Foley intends to re-sign with the Lions, "all things being equal." In other words, he wants to be back in B.C. but not at a discount:

Some of these possible free agents might be of interest to the Lions. IMO import defensive end depth, and non-import receivers are areas of concern for us.

Wally was on the TEAM yesterday suggesting that he would be more active in the FA market this off season, Foley was an important first step though. Not sure there is the ideal FA to meet our needs other than the impending departure of Foley, as I see it.

As for Parker, he is a ball hawk, much like Korey Banks is and we have see the struggles that he has gone through to finally solidify himself a spot and even then his instincts have put him in the dog house on occasion. I don't really think that there is room on the Lions D for two similar DB's, at least the way our D has been aligned in recent years under Benevides.

I've always liked O. Cetoute, he's got great wheels and size but seems to have dropped off the face of the earth for the past two seasons, not sure what's up with him?

Wouldn't any receiver seem to fall off the face of the earth if they're relying on Kerry Joseph and Cody Pickett as their QB?

I'd like Teyo Johnson because I think a true TE could be an asset in the run game and a mismatch in the passing game.

However, I feel like giving a TE to our offensive minds would be like giving a blind man a television.

Well at least, with one notable exception, Wally doesn't have to work too hard on signing his own FAs this year.

I'm uninvolved in the minutiae of contracts and too lazy to look it up. Should Logan and Wake (not to mention RGM) find themselves cut this year, are they now free to sign with anyone in the CFL?

Yep, Wake and Logan are free agents, in the CFL anyway. In Doug Brown's column this week, he claims that once a CFL option year player cashes his first NFL game cheque, his CFL contract is null and void. So even if he is released after one game in Sept, he is automatically a free agent and can sign with any CFL or NFL team, even though he was in the option year of his CFL contract.

He is wrong on that front, as the CFL still has a binding contract with players that go to the NFL on their option year windows. However, Wake and Logan's CFL contracts have expired at the end of the 2009 and they are FA if they return to the CFL this season or later.
