We know that, and it has been brought up here and elsewhere that it is cheating the paying public. An easy remedy would be to penalize the team for an incorrect flag to stop this nonsense. It amounts to the Maurer fake injury, which has little consideration for the paying public.Quesdad wrote:Well guys, it sems challenges are being orchestra for other reasons than whats taken place but more for the time out! Sad but looking like thats how a one time challenge is being used for...but I could be wrong based on my source, and you know who .. but you can guess that, Tactics are not as important as the strategic decisions!!This means as much as notice to the officials as a message to the other side. The game is not as simple as one play I'm learning.

Steve Armitage noted that challenge flags are falling at times just so the coach can speak to the ref and suggested maybe a need to review this before next year. Earlier he noted though that there is still a learning process for the coaches and the refs this season as to what is a challengeable call and it's evident that it is not fully clear yet. It makes sense when you see what is going on.Quesdad wrote:Well guys, it sems challenges are being orchestra for other reasons than whats taken place but more for the time out! Now do they need to go a next step to say if you drop the flag on a non-challengeable call you lose your right to challenge for that half of football? Right now the coaches are so new to this, that they are not sure in all situations or so it seems this year.
If this were the NFL the teams would be adding a challenge coach who's only job is to determine when to challenge- but it's not.

If the Coaches don't know by this point (last year was the initial grace season), they would quickly learn if they were penalized for it. As it stands now, out of the flags where they are not understanding that they can't challenge, and the times they use it as a posturing episode with the refs, leans about 80% towards teh posturing side, IMO.Toppy Vann wrote:Steve Armitage noted that challenge flags are falling at times just so the coach can speak to the ref and suggested maybe a need to review this before next year. I'm not at all believing that there is a single coach out there who is still behind in learning when there is or isn't a challengeable play. I'm sorry but this is these guys' livelihood, they are paid to know these things inside out and backwards. If a bunch of us fans know the rules, I sure as heck hope that the coaches know the rules too. Sorry but it is 100% gamesmanship at this point in the Insant replay rules. Time for the Commish to step in and apply a penalty. You drop the flag on a non-challengeable call - Delay of game penalty or even that counts as one of your challenges. This would be much much easier to police than the DIE ..Rammer wrote:If the Coaches don't know by this point (last year was the initial grace season), they would quickly learn if they were penalized for it. I remember the Als coaching staff having a similar opportunity to challenge a contentious call on a goal line plunge by Edwards, being stonewalled by Glatt and an ensuing fumble recovery by the Lions.Rammer wrote:Lions coaches in the booth would have given Wally the heads up if they thought it wasn't complete, they have access to what the video guy is seeing as well.notahomer wrote:Now if it was a call for the Stamps coach to consider....the replay would be shown. We all anguished over the non-call watching it on youtube, which if had been challenged may well have had grave implications to our GC victory if the challenge was successful.
My biggest issue is Wally's throwing the challenge flag with no real contention in mind (I've seen him do it twice this season), if not only for the satisfaction of having an approaching official to rag on and ream out.
Instead he could be contesting and possibly overturning a suspect decision by the official, which may well have saved us six points against on the scoreboard.
