Anybody planning to or already attended CelticFest Vancouver events?

Anybody planning to attend the parade on Sunday at 11:00 AM?

Here is a good trivia question in light of this day. Which BC Lions players, past or present, clearly have Irish heritage? The most obvious example I can think of right now is Duncan O'Mahony, who was born in Kilkenny, Ireland. Any others?

Im going Curling and Golfing instead of celebrating St. Patty's Day, but im not Irish:wink: ....but actually in all seriousness there are like 5 kids in my class that's parents were all born in Ireland and moved here 15-20 years ago, but none of their families celebrate St. Patrick's day. :no:

I'll be spending it doing the same thing i always do. The only thing i ever do for St. Patty's day is wear green, and harassing others to as well! :wink:

Went to the UBC Golf Club for lunch and one girl was dressed in green (she was the only one and she was a waitress) and she also had a "Kiss me Im Irish" button on, and one guy said, "I'll kiss you I'm Irish too" The funny thing about it is that the guy had his wife there! :lol:

Woooooooooooooooooo.... what a night! Not a single green brew in sight for this Irish lass! Just a bunch of CRAZY friends, a whole lot of all you can eat sushi and kidnapping a Habfan. Chauffered him to the nearest Death By Chocolate to "dish" about his upcoming "hot" date for tomorrow night.... ummm not with me oddly enough 8) I am far too nice!! :lol:

So a little late... but all the same...

I'm sure you've all seen the flag of Ireland before, with its green, white, and gold colours:

Obviously, green is the colour for St. Patrick's Day, but the gold colour is associated with it too, especially as a representation of the pot of gold. I think it's correct to say that a country's "colours" are represented by the colours on their flag. In international sporting competitions such as the Olympics, the uniforms of the competitors usually have colours associated with the colours on their national flag. So with Ireland, I'm sure their uniforms consist of the green and gold colour combination.

This reminds that green and gold seems to be a popular colour combination as at least one team in every professional sports league have adopted uniforms of that colour:

CFL: Edmonton Eskimos
NFL: Green Bay Packers
NBA: Seattle Supersonics and Boston Celtics
MLB: Oakland Athletics
NHL: Dallas Stars (and their former Minnesota North Stars)

When choosing the uniform colours of a sports team from a particular city, I wonder if any consideration is made to the city's ethnic heritage. Perhaps those five cities have a strong Irish heritage, thus the green and gold uniform colours.
