This thread is to commemorate all those brave men and women who have given their lives in the service of their country. Remembrance Day is dedicated to all those whose sacrifice stands as mute reminder of the folly of waste when hatred, fear and avarice drive us to terrible deeds. It is also a reminder that even in our darkest moments, our greatest qualities like courage, self sacrifice and humility can shine like the brightest star. May all those who have been lost take some comfort in knowing that we remember.

Edit: Quite right KIA. All those who are still with us deserve every ounce of respect and admiration we can give them.

is it ok to also have the same gratitude and reverence towards those who took the same risks and managed to return to us. There are so few of them left and I wish they got a lot more daily respect than they do. Everytime I see them on tv around this time of yr, I just want to yell thank you through the tv to them.
Every day that passes is one you can't get back

It saddens me the way our vets who return from Afghanistan are being treated by our government. They deserve better.

Let's also not forget those who wore the uniform and never were placed in harm's way or perhaps served on a peacekeeping mission. These people have voluntarily put the uniform on and were willing to go and do whatever was requested of them.

Another thing today...the Canucks cancelled their morning practice in Ottawa to attend Remembrance Day Services at the National War Memorial......GOOD FOR THEM!!!! It's nice to see the personal side of the players.

Maybe Canada should introduce another holiday and follow the American way by commemorating and honouring war heroes separately with those who are gone (Memorial Day) and those who are still alive (Veterans Day).
