It became official this morning. Shawn Gore is calling it a day. A solid all-time Leo with 20 TDs and close to 4K yards through 7 seasons of service.

I recall the play last year when he got dumped on the sideline that caused the concussion (I don't recall a penalty on the play but it looked fairly innocuous).

Solid guy who's made the Lower Mainland his home. I wish him the best of luck.

In other news, Eric Fraser has asked for, and has been granted, his release. Made a few big plays for us during his short stay. This isn't a surprise though, given the changes expected in the secondary.

DH

Damn. Was have a career season until he got hurt. Even when he came back from his concussion you could tell something wasn't right. Was dropping some catchable balls that were typically routine for him. All the best to Shawn and his young family. Thanks for his years as a Lion.

I'm sad about this, but his quality of life is most important, thanks you Shawn for your service to our community, team and our entertainment, you will be missed.

I wish Gore and Fraser all the best. They were two of my favourites.

Gore showed great flashes in 2011 when he was made the starter at inside slotback, opposite Geroy. It might have been too much, too soon, though, because he had a tendency to run with the ball before he caught it. After four games, he gave way to Arland Bruce and never got another chance to see the ball regularly until last year when he was moved to boundary wideout, where he used his speed and soft hands to have a strong season. He was on pace for his first 1,000-yard season before injuries slowed him down. I wish him all the best in retirement and hope he has no lingering effects from his concussions.

Echoing the well wishes already sent in regards to Mr. Gore. I've likely mentioned it before somewhere in these pages, but there was a season or two back a handful of years ago when Shawn Gore reached a truly exciting level of play IMO and became my fave Leo for those seasons. I loved it that 'Superman's' side-kick in the slot was our young Canadian. A wonderful tandem. Beautiful smooth striders. Thank you Shawn! Best of health ongoing!

Looks like he will continue to serve the community.

Shawn Gore is going from catching touchdowns to catching criminals.

The B.C. Lions receiver announced his retirement Thursday, the same day he was to be sworn in as a member of the Vancouver Police Department along with 29 other new recruits.

Yes, all the best to Shawn. He was amongst my faves, regardless of passport. I picked up his helmet from the locker room sale, the first game worn helmet I have collected. I will miss watching his play but I am glad he had the opportunity to leave under his terms and make what seems a pretty smooth transition into a new career.

I guess the acquisition of Foucault becomes all the more important in terms of ratio.

Lions' loss and the VPD's gain. Wish Gore all the best in his new career.

Great to see and good luck to Shawn on his new career with the VPD. This might also explain why he shut down his twitter account a while ago.

I liked what Gore brought as a player. Good talent. Skill. Attitude. Worthy of his high draft selection.

Happy that he has setttled in B.C.

Congratulations, Shawn, re your career change. As noted above, catching criminals now, not footballs.

All the guy ever did was make every tough catch over the middle the club ask him to and get the snot knocked out of him for his efforts. Never thought he got the credit he deserved for that.

Good for him for moving into police work and serving the comunity.
