Received an email from the Lions today advising season ticket holders can purchase tickets to this Grey Cup in Ottawa starting April 25th. Can't ever recall them going on sale this early.... it's not even training camp !

It's about normal. This is the presale for ST Holders of other CFL teams. REDBLACK ST holders will already have exercised their options. Typicaly host team ST holders get first dibs followed by ST hoders of the other 8 teams and finally the general public. Sales to general public will probably open in late May or early June.

Needless to say I'll be in there as soon as this presale opens. Room was booked months ago. This will be my 35th GC meaning I will have attended 1/3 of all Grey Cups. Gawd I feel old.

better be online at 10:00am on April 25 with two computers going.

saw on twitter that each ottawa season ticket holder could buy 4 additional tickets, and most of the seats are basically gone despite inflated prices, and going for 2-3x face on stubhub right now.

If GC tickets continue to spiral upward in future years then I predict a growing number of fans showing up during GC week to party, and then watch the game on TV in a bar.

one of the issues in ottawa is they can only add 12000 seats because they built condos behind one endzone, plus they have a good season ticket base and won grey cup last year. Low capacity and high demand! Hopefully, Grey cup price go back to 2012 prices if they go to 56000 seat commonwealth in 2018.

You could probably get tickets week of the game if the secondary market craters if ottawa doesn't get into the game. Probably stuck if ottawa gets in.

A big factor in GC pricing is the ability of the facility to provide capacity without having to endure the expense of adding temporary seating. Commonwealth, BC Place, Big Owe and previously Rogers Centre could all provide at least 46K of permanent seating. All other facilities must add temporary seating to get up into the more desirable capacity range. Considerable cost is involved with that. A number I heard at the 2004 GC in Ottawa was it cost them $100 per seat to add what was over 20000 temporary seats. If correct that as $2M they had to invest to get capacity up to 50K, $2M the Lions or Esks wouldn't have to spend. I found a ticket stub on eBay today that appears to be a temp endzone seat from 2004. It had a face value of $199. My sideline seat (20 yard line row 25) for that game has a face value of $279.

Another comparison can be found when looking at 2013 in Regina and 2014 in BC Place. My section 242 seat has a face value of $280. I see a section 202 (back of endzone) stub on eBay with face value of $178. The original seat I had purchased for 2013 in Regina was in the temps in the back of the endzone. Face value was $299.........$120 more than the Lions would charge for an endzone seat the next year.

Shows you the difference between last year in Toronto and this year in Ottawa. Last year, ticket prices for the Grey Cup were announced to the general public on July 23rd with the actual window for non Ago season ticket open around Aug 10.

It was quite painless. I logged in at the crack of 7:00, poked around looking at different seat options and was all bought, paid and confirmed by 7:07. There was a limited number of seats available in all side line sections but still a reasonably decent selection in all areas (pairs, fours and more) considering it was the second pass after REDBLACK ST holders had their run at things. Got myself an aisle seat, row 25 in Section G, approximately 20 yard line.

 Does that make you a Northsider or Southsider?

Last year was a cluster. As much as I enjoyed the Toronto Grey Cup it was a huge mistake giving it to them last year. With change of ownership and transitioning from Rogers to BMO there was just far too much on the new Argo ownership's plate that had to be dealt with as top priorities to heap Grey Cup on top of it all. They would've been much better off to award them 2018 (2017 was going to Ottawa no matter what). That way they could've dealt with the ownership and stadium change as the top priorities they were. Then they could've allowed themselves the opportunity to get through this transitional season, take a deep breath, get things settled down with the franchise then tackle a 2018 Grey Cup properly starting sometime this summer.

I believe that gives me the right to scream "Southside Sucks!"

I did look at some options on the Southside too but was a bit rushed. I don't have a long commute to the plant here in 100 Mile but the 7:00 lands right in the middle of what is normally my drive to work. One aisle seat I almost took on south side was in Row 10 which I felt was a bit low. So I checked the north side and found one in Row 25. Looks like it's only a half dozen rows up to the tunnel to the concourse too. Location, location, location.
