This topic has been touched upon in a couple of other threads but I thought I would post this "unofficial" list of pending free agents from across the league as according to Drew Edwards of 3DownNation. As in last year, there are a lot of names for GMs to consider. I expect there will be substantial upheaval and swapping of players amongst teams.

Myself, I think Darrian Durant's days as a Rider are over; I expect James Franklin will be hotly pursued by Chris Jones and Durant set adrift. Perhaps to land in Toronto or perhaps even Montreal to act as mentor/backup to Vernon Adams. In the meantime, there will be a lot conjecture over the next few months; there certainly is plenty of fodder available based on the numbers of FAs upcoming.

Most of these players will probably be locked up before free agency begins. The key issue for most teams will be to see which of their players get NFL offers.

That's the way I look at it too. They like to say the CFL season doesn't start until Labour Day. IMO the real FA list doesn't come out until mid-January. Wake me up then.

The Rider QB situation could turn into the biggest offseason story. It's certainly being hotly debated in Rider Nation where "coveting thy neighbor's wife" always plays a role. All season long there's been great debate over at RF.com concerning Franklin's contract status after this season. Many for some reason were absolutely convinced Franklin was signed to a 1+1, something CFL GMs are loath to do with rookie QBs. As such they were convinced his name would appear on the list of pending FAs. Naturally since they are the Riders and Chris Jones is the GM/HC Franklin would be only too happy to relocate to the rectangular province to reunite with Jones. The part they don't seem to grasp is that Durant is nowhere near ready to secede his starting throne. He will be looking for a situation where he is the starter and a contract of 2 or 3 years at market value for a starter of his experience and age. For the Riders to offer Durant the sort of situation and contract it would take to keep him means they can't offer the Franklin anything more than the situation he already has in Edmonton, backup. Many Rider fans believe they can have their cake and eat it too which is to say they wind up with both Durant and Franklin next year. I really don't see how they can offer both the situation they seek; Durant to be the starter and Franklin to be in wide open competition to be the starter. No way they can BS Durant into a Lulay-type role right now. He doesn't have a Jennings under contract. At best he can threaten Durant with Bridge, Kinne and Waters playing rock, paper, scissors to see who he uses as bargaining clout. If Jones isn't careful I can see them botching it and ending up with neither Durant nor Franklin.

I will be looking at the Bomber situation with interest as well. According to the scuttlebutt that was circulating during Grey Cup weekend, Bernie Nicholls is looking for a $450,000 contract. Also the name of Paul LaPolice emerged as a dark horse candidate for the HC job in Toronto. It seems almost a given that Milanovich is a goner in Toronto.

I see Corey Mace for Calgary listed as a DT, although he was their defensive line coach last year

I would normally look at that list and come up with a wishlist for the Lions; however, as others have mentioned it's likely that most of those players will re-sign with their current teams. So I'll wait until January or until we get closer to free agency day to build that list.

My free agent re-signing wishlist is as follows:

Alex Bazzie
Mike Benson
Mic'hael Brooks
Bryan Burnham
Solomon Elimimian
Marco Iannuzzi
Jeremiah Johnson (as long as it's a reasonable number)
TJ Lee
Bo Lokombo (though I know he's as good as gone)
Rolly Lumbala
Keynan Parker
Terrell Sinkfield
Hunter Steward
Ronnie Yell

I think the big focus this offseason has to be rebuilding the D-Line. I think Bazzie, at least as a rotational defensive end, has some value. I also like Brooks on the interior. I would utilize Menard and Forde more, and let Westerman go (should save some cap space here). I think we need to have another big body on the interior to help free up Brooks, and an upgrade on Roh would be nice as well.

There are a few anomalies on the list most definitely; I see Micheal Sam is amongst the Als numbers. I expect he is still on the books but in all practicality he is MIA.

I totally agree the D-Line could use some augmentation. Amongst the names of D-linemen from other teams that caught my eye were Frank Beltre of the Stamps but Willie Jefferson of the Riders particularly stood out. I wished the Lions signed him instead of Sinkfield this past season; he is a true impact rush end who is very athletic and can move all over the line and get dropped back into coverage. He made a huge difference to the Saskatchewan defence for the few games he played for them.

That is not uncommon for retired players. When they retire and still have term left on their deals they go from the club's roster to the CFL's retired list. The club who holds their playing rights at the time of retirement still retain those rights until the contracts finally expire. This includes players signing those "1 day" contracts. They still have to sign the standard CFL player's contract on which the language says they expire on the second Tuesday in February of 20____ (fill in the blank). Luca Congi shows on the Riders list of FAs. He signed a 1 day deal back in June to retire as a Rider. He then went to the retired list with the Riders holding his playing rights until that deal expired on Feb 14th 2017. Prior to that if he changed his mind he'd have to un-retire to join the Riders or have another team acquire his rights. After Feb 14th he can un-retire and sign with anybody. Had Paul McCallum not returned to play he would still be listed on the Lions' list of 2017 FAs.

In my opinion, it is almost certain that they will end up with neither Franklin nor Durant. Edmonton will keep Franklin for another year and decide whether to keep him or Reilly going forward, while Durant has had enough of Jones' lowballing and media games to re-sign for any amount. He'll go to free agency and one of Wpg, Mtl or Tor will give him a good offer. Sask will end up with Nichols if they're lucky, and Ray or Willy or Masoli if they're not. Just my guess.

solomone56: 7 great years in Canada. Thank you @bclions_official for giving me a opportunity to live out my dreams. @cfl @tsn_official
If Solly was 32 or even 25 I would almost interpret what he posted last night as him retiring or signing with an NFL team.
At 30 though, I would think there isn't much in the way of options down south and he has at least 2 more well-paid years up here. Maybe just saying goodbye to Vancouver/Canada until next season?

That's the way I interpreted it. If he wants a better deal, he's more likely to find it here or elsewhere in the CFL.

The Lions need to make the re-signing of Elemimian a priority but if he goes to FA or the NFL then they need to re-sign Lokombo who surely is ready to be a CFL starter.

Westerman should be resigned but for backup/rotation money with Menard as the starting Nat. on the D line.

I don't expect Wally to spend the $ in FA to sign a top notch D lineman like Riders' Jefferson or Stamps' Hughes.

Hunter Steward as a Nat. guard and tackle with Victoria as his hometown is another must re-sign.
