Only other concern with Chris Williams signing is if it costs #bclions another veteran salary #CFLFA
So is this the Olafioye rumour Ed Willes mentioned in his column? Arguably best tackle in the league the last 5 years. Maybe they ask if they can re-structure his deal but he is in the prime of his career.

wally said directly on twitter that they are still looking at adding another skilled receiver after the williams signing. this lead to more digging on the gore rumour ... which in the end said that he is not retiring ... he just doesn't know when he is returning. So they still have cap space.

I see gore moving to field WR where their is less hitting, and iannuzzi moving to utility receiver/backup, when both gore and williams are healthy.

Then people figured out that they are only go with one cdn receiver when williams is healthy in August, so then Farhan said they going with 2 cdn DBs (that why they signed another cdn backup field corner)

The JO rumour is based on Dennis (the reigning MOOL) only got 170-180 in FA and JO is making around 200. That said, allstar CANADIAN OLine make 250k range.

As discussed earlier in this thread, Maddy is an interesting prospect.

The Lions could use help in the interior of the D-line. He seems to have quickness to play 3-tech. He may be a bit undersized at 287 pounds to play nose tackle but he's bigger than anyone else under contract for 2017. Maddy was invited to the NFL Combine last year but was unable to compete in any field drills as he recovered from a left knee injury. He went undrafted and was later invited to minicamp in New Orleans. Here's what NFL scouts said about him in his draft year:

Maddy could well be a CFL nose tackle that many fans would like to see. Mic'hael Brooks has also said he prefers to play 3-tech and have someone else absorb the double teams in the middle. The Lions' recent track record isn't good for holding and developing sparkplug-type nose tackles, though. Zach Minter was hampered by injuries in 2015, playing a half season before he was cast aside. George Uko, who looked almost unblockable in training camp last year, languished in the practice roster all season before being dropped in the offseason.

I'd love to see Bryant Turner Jr. get more reps at defensive end, where he has had success in the past. He has the quickness and versatility to come off the edge and get to the QB.

One guy is 29 with 7 Divisional All-Star, 6 CFL All-Star and 1 MOOL awards in 7 years. The other guy is only 7 months younger with 1 Divisional All-Star, 1 CFL All-Star and 1 MOOL award in 1-1/2 years. The difference in salaries I think is fair given Olafioye has proven himself over 7 years compared to Dennis' 1-1/2 year body of work.

Stampeders

Johnson 277
Turner 272
Wiggan 272

If Mark W goes with "smaller" interior D Linemen, it occurs to me that the Stampeders did that last year. Subject to more research, their depth chart from the Grey Cup game shows the three players above on the inside of the D Line.

Is it possible that 300 pound nose tackles are not necessary in the CFL?

The D Line is essential to stopping the run, and to stopping the pass. Pressure on the QB is key to stopping the pass. Plugging the gaps is key to stopping the run. Khalif Mitchell, back in the day, did a tremendous job collapsing the pocket, and also plugging the middle. He was big, 6'5 315 lbs., mobile and nasty.

We will see how Mark W approaches the year. It is all interesting.

The CFL FA market changed drastically with shorter contracts and I'd presume more FAs each year resulting in FAs being cheaper than during scarce times.

The Lions increased participation rate in signing FAs correlates to this new I suspect.

I don't normally recommend radio interviews, especially ones pertaining to other teams but this piece with Matthew Scianitti - the TSN sideline reporter, REALLY nails the messy situation in Toronto right now. Matt perfectly articulates the club's appalling lack of direction and is concerned (like me) that they're fixated on an NFL pedigree for their GM and have blinders on to appear 'big league.'

It starts out kind of tame, but Matt gets really lathered up at about the 4:30 mark when he unloads on Michael Copeland (I recommend listening to all 7:19. Really compelling radio!).

The Lions have added some depth, but not much bulk, to their D-line, confirming the signing of Maddy and three others.
The BC Lions Football Club today announced that international defensive linemen Kenneth Boatright, Louis Palmer, Marquis Jackson and Luther Maddy have signed with the team.

Boatright (6’4”, 245) spent the past three years in the NFL with Seattle and Dallas. The defensive end attended Southern Illinois for two years before signing with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

Palmer (6’2”, 265) was a free agent signing of the Detroit Lions last year and attended training camp with the club. He enjoyed a productive four-year, 48-game career at Central Michigan tallying 44 solo tackles, five sacks as well as a pair of forced fumbles and 13 tackles for a loss.

Jackson (6’4”, 255) signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Portland State. The Los Angeles native also had a short stint with the Oakland Raiders before signing with the Arena League’s Portland Thunder where he played 18 games through 2014 and 2015. Last year he was in camp with the Chicago Bears.

Maddy (6’2”, 285) enjoyed a productive career at Virginia Tech before signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent last year. The Florida product was an All-ACC selection as a senior in 2015 and earned a trip to the East-West Shrine game in 2016. He wrapped his time with the Hokies collecting 74 tackles including 29 for a loss along with 14 career sacks.
