Only caught Q4 and part of Q3.

Jennings comes as one would expect, methinks. Mobile. Strong arm. Effective.

Harris on the sideline? 7 runs for 28 into the 4th Q. Shaq in backfield.

Forde says the Lions became predictable late in the game.

11 straight points by Esks.

I've always liked Iannuzzi. Underused IMO.

Eskimo defence getting good pressure now.

K Lawrence with some good returns.

(Congrats to Wally Buono -- Order of Canada. Well deserved.)

Lokombo contributing on D and STs.

7 minutes left.

JJ nice movement and pass. Sack on blitz by Watkins.

23-18 Lions. Esks ball.

Chris R doing better on the corner.

Reilly going deep ineffectively. Clarke nice cover. Drive extended by BC penalty.

Forde praises Hoffman Ellis.

Reilly nice run. Looks like it hurt him.

TD for EE. 26-23. 19 straight points by EE.

2 minutes left.

Good pressure by EE on Jennings.

Pressure kills. 2 and out.

1st down EE. Key. 142 left.

From 23-7, to 23-26.

Face mask on Lions. 15 yard penalty.

We blew this one.

Lynch good run. Easy first downs for EE.

FG 22 straight points for EE.

16 seconds left.

Manny should have gotten down to the ground. Lucky we got the shot at the end.

Tease the hell out of us for 50 minutes then painfully watch it all slip away in route to another loss. Having an adequate running game is vital to support a young qb making his first ever start. Failed miserably to do so. Zero creativety from a couple of coaches that look well past their best before date.

Bowman loses control of the ball and it goes out of bounds in the end zone..That's our ball. I saw it live but our inept coaching staff misses it. Esks knew it and quick snapped it and 2 plays later score the TD ( even though forward progress was stopped 2 seconds before Lynch makes his final stretch..)

We are not a playoff team. How's the draft talent pool shaping up, since it looks like we have a top three pick coming up (unless it's already been traded away)?
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

That was a promising debut for Jennings. He held onto the ball too long on a couple of plays but the biggest problem for the offence was the coaches got too conservative when they had a two-touchdown lead. It was easy to read what the B.C. offence and Edmonton defence were doing on first down. The Lions ran right into the heart of the defence instead of attacking open areas with the short passing game.

Defensively, I mentioned in the game thread that the Lions played well. They were just on the field too long in the fourth quarter. Bighill, Hoffman-Ellis and Johnson had excellent games. Chris Rwabukamba had an outstanding game at corner after Ronnie Yell was injured in the first half. Steven Clarke played well at Yell's short-side corner spot apart from two jump ball catches by Walker that turned out to be the biggest plays of the game for Edmonton.

Richie Leone cost the Lions some crucial points with a missed convert and field goal and an illegal punt out of bounds to set up the game-winning TD.

Overall, the Lions showed again that they can play with the best teams in the league. I hope they stick with Jennings as the starter for the rest of the year. He has a future.

:dizzy: SO $$^$ predictable. O line could not open anything for the ground game. Defense again held them in and got tired. Leone field goal bad day. Cortez should be fired. No imagination. Tedford should be coaching college ball again. Jennings played pretty well for a rookie. Looks like ribs for Harris. Have to win the next two or forget this season.

Fire the coach ! He doesn't have a clue ! How long is this fiasco going to go on? Any other coach would have been gone ages ago! 14 points given away in the 4th!!! Unacceptable!!!

CFL.ca Staff

EDMONTON - BC Lions running back Andrew Harris left the game against the Edmonton Eskimos after getting hurt following a tackle.

The injury occured in the final seconds of the first quarter with the Lions leading 7-0. Harris caught a six-yard pass and needed to be helped off of the field after being brought down and was seen walking to the locker room with a trainer.

Harris had 28 yards on seven rush attempts.

He was replaced at running back by rookie Shaquille Murray-Lawrence.
We have relied too much for too long on Andrew Harris to carry the load at RB, in largely ineffective offences. We have needed to share the load at running back. And IMO our lack of National depth has prevented us from having a selection of Int running backs for that purpose.

Harris has been amazingly resilient. But this was inevitable. One does expect him back soon however.

The Lions will never get an easier shot at beating the Esks at Commonwealth than today. Ripe for the picking. Reilly continues to struggle since his return - 209 yards passing. Esks had 95 yards on the ground.

Will we ever run a gadget play? Fake a field goal?

We're about as creative as the guy who designed the Cleveland Browns helmet.

Quite a somber mood on the bus here in Edmonton. Very quiet. People are deflated and really feel the defeat.

Fun trip, fun game, wrong ending. We went away from what was working and seemed to play way too vanilla.
