Our Leos play host to the Toronto Argos on Friday night.

Our Leos are coming off a win against the Bombers while the Argos blew a huge first half lead and lost to the Stamps in their last game. Our Leos have won 5 out of our last 6 games.

With all the quarterback injuries in the CFL, Kevin Glenn is looking like a mighty good backup quarterback right now. Other CFL teams who have lost their starter are in a much more challenging predicament.

The Argos have a very pass oriented spread offensive system led by Ricky Ray, who went 33/38 and threw for 4 touchdowns against Calgary. Chad Owens and Drury back the Argos will have their best offensive lineup since Game 2.

Our Leos have the best pass defense in the CFL. We are presently only giving up 195 passing yards per game - the lowest average passing yards per game in the last 34 years. Our defense also has only given up 3 touchdowns in the last 77 series against them.

So this game will be a battle between a very good passing offence against 3 td 77 195 lowest 34 years

On the other side of the football, our anemic offence will take on a porous Toronto defense. Our offence played much better last game with two touchdowns scored after not scoring a touchdown in the previous two games.

Here are my keys to the game. I look forward to reading yours.

GET PRESSURE ON RICKY RAY

Our defense is the bottom echelon in the CFl in sacks and we usually don't get enough pressure on opposing quarterbacks. We don't need to sack Ray but with two of his big weapons back we just can't let him sit back there with too much time or he will pick us apart, no matter how good our pass defense has been. Obviously we will also have to mix coverages on Ray - he is a smart quarterback that you can't go vanilla against.

RUN THE FOOTBALL

I say it week after week. We need 20 or more rushes per game. We need to involve both Harris and Logan. We need to use a lot of power sets with tight ends and not be in the spread too often. The run sets up the pass, provides options for play action, and second and shorter is the best scenario for the quick release of Kevin Glenn.

THROW TO THE OUTSIDE

We need to utilize the our outside receivers more in the passing attack. The loss of Courtney Taylor hurts but we have good receiver depth. It's an opportunity for others to step up and for Glenn to develop chemistry with new targets.

WRAP

Looking forward to our defense playing the Argos dangerous offence. Go Sol E. Go Leos. :beauty:

Pressure Ricky Ray.

Run the ball. Ummmm ... I mean block well for the running game. Errrr ... I mean put the O Line in position to pound the defence. Angle right. Angle left. It seems to me if we stay simple, and angle block them, they will have to fight like Hell to penetrate. They will tire. Harris and Logan could run wild. We will see ...

Vary the pass coverages.

Get all the receivers involved.

Three keys:

Stop Ricky Ray
The Lions usually play some of their best football against Ricky Ray. B.C. is 4-1 against the Argos since Ray moved to Toronto in 2012. The only Argo victory in that period came last year when Ray was out of the lineup. The Lions held Ray to 181 yards and intercepted two of his passes in beating the Argos in Toronto last month. In his three seasons in Toronto, Ray has thrown only 2 TD passes and 5 INTs against the Lions.

This game could be different. Ray will have Chad Owens and Andre Durie in the starting lineup together for the first time since July 5. He loves to get them the ball in space underneath the coverage and spread the field from sideline to sideline. They both also rush the ball on misdirection plays. They will put huge pressure on B.C.'s linebackers and corners, who have been a big part of the the Lions' league-leading defence. Adam Bighill and Solomon Elimimian will get a workout. Ronnie Yell, Dante Marsh, Ryan Phillips, Cord Parks and Josh Johnson will have to provide plenty of support.

Run the ball
As has been noted before, the Lions are 29-2 since August 2011 and 7-1 this year when they rush the ball 20 times in a game. The Argos rank seventh in the league against the run. The Lions rushed for 167 yards in their victory in Toronto last month and have put up at least 125 yards in seven straight games against the Argos. The Argos are bound to be weary. They're playing their fourth straight road game. They're 0-3 in that span and they suffered a demoralizing loss Saturday in Calgary. Do they have the character to bounce back or will they just be anxious to get home to begin a four-game homestand? The recipe is obvious for the Lions. Keep the blocking scheme simple, pound the ball and let their skilled running backs cut to the hole. That worked great last week against Winnipeg when the Lions finally resorted to angle blocking in the fourth quarter. This week they should do it sooner. Control the clock, wear down the defence and keep Ricky Ray off the field.

Make it special
Chad Owens is not only the Argos' top offensive weapon, he's the league's most dangerous returner. Special teams could make the difference in a tight, low-scoring game, as most of the Lions' games are. It's crucial for Tim Brown pick up more return yards than Owens. His track record is good. Brown piled up 249 return yards in last month's victory in Toronto. He has racked up more than 100 yards in three of his past four games against the Argos. Owens, on the other hand, has been held to less than 100 return yards in three of his last four games against the Lions, with his best effort being 121 yards on four kick returns and four punt returns two years ago this week.

Attack the width and length of the field.

Thanks Blitz, great comments everyone...we know that our Defence will do its best and give TOR a hard time gaining yards, so as always, it is up to our Offence and Special Teams...we must have these two groups start winning their own battles for a change...if our O lays another egg against a good Argos D, it will put stress on the Defence again...and a cannot allow another fake, or trick play, to work against us on S Ts...

Harris could have a big game against this D if we create some space for him...

I agree MLF...it sure would be a real positive to have our offence play a very good game and take some pressure off our defense for a change.

Bit of a tendency to underrate our defence by some of us, especially as it is not a blitzing, attacking style. The statistics are quite good, however.

Pretty obvious one of the reasons for the good results is our ferocious LB duo of Solly and Biggie.

Much excellent personnel throughout the D also. Perhaps not everywhere, but no team is without some vulnerability.

Here are Solly and Biggie, and Benny, talking about their partnership.

Will we see Toronto neutralize any of our strengths?

Since we're quoting ourselves ... sometimes it doesn't feel good to be right, especially when you see trouble coming and you can't stop it.

Haha, self quoting...funny how that is like hindsight and editing of the rest of our own quotes isn't included, so here is mine...:)
