We went down the field against some 8 and 9 man fronts. Passes of 44, 39, 26 20.

Big gainers. Glenn was 14/15 for 193. In the first half.

Simpler scheme and assignments for the O Line.

Pretty decent half. But still very vulnerable to pressure on the QB. Not opening up holes for the run game.
.................

Willy injured.  Gotta pressure the backup.

We have allowed three sacks midway through the 3rd.  Tons of pressure on Glenn.

Who the heck challenged the ruling on the missed FG?  O'Shea was pretty happy about it. Returner should not have tried for glory.

Glenn throws it away, and still takes a hit.  No offence in Q3.  More pressure on Glenn.

Into the 4th.  Are we playing not to lose?  Up by 10 still.
.............

Two receivers down, so ...

Suddenly we start doing what has been a major theme on here, and what Angus wrote about ...

Angle blocking left.  10 yards for Harris.

Angle blocking right.  16 yards for Harris.  Does that make you crazy?  Simple scheme.  No reads. No detailed technique. Block the man to your right. Get your weight on him. Take him to the right. Pow.  Huge freaking hole for Harris.

Angle blocking left. 20 for Harris.

Our O Line averages well over 300.  I heard pre game the Bombers D front averages much, much less. So, run the ball, right?

Can Andrew Harris run the ball, when he gets a bit of a hole?

Pretty good effort by the Lions.

Way to go, Coaches.

Angle right. 12 for Harris on a humongous angle blocking hole.

7 more. 7 more.
.............

Our defensive players took the life out of the Bombers offence. Solly. Biggie. Front four worked very hard, as always.

O Line used their size and strength well. The angle blocking was very effective on runs, when we focused on it in the 4th Q. Huge holes opened up. Cutbacks for Harris.

The D Line cannot withstand blocks from the side by guys bigger than they are. Impossible. The entire mass of humanity moves in a strange Buffalo Dance to the side, and huge cutbacks holes are created for the running back to find. Presto. D Line tongues hanging out. Hands on knees between plays.

When you have big hogs, just put it in first gear, and earth move the D Line to the side. Don't bother trying to build a complicated, high maintenance Lamborghini. The running backs can do the Italian sports car stuff.

Big play Manny. 3/79 and a very nice TD.

Gore showing what he can do. And Haidara. No idea why he is so deep on the depth chart.

As the season wears on, the coaching throughout the league levels out (until the playoffs, when it once again becomes a big difference maker). We figure a few things out. The players adjust.

Khari Jones just found out the pages in the playbook are actually doublesided, and realized he has running plays that

Hardrick really helped the running game, just wait till Steward gets back

That episode REALLY ticked me off.

It was NOT an automatic review because there was no score as the play stood with the KR leaving the endzone as per the on-field ruling. If it were going to be an AR, they wouldn't have blown in the next play, waited until Wpg were over the ball almost ready to snap, and only then blow it dead and decide, yeah, let's check this again.

What really bugged me was the :clown: in game day ops who kept replaying it over and over, like he was angling to be some sort of hero for making sure everyone know he went OOB in the endzone. Nice going, pal. Maybe CC would have reviewed it anyway but the circumstances as I noted above don't make this clear. At any rate it certainly didn't help to keep "helpfully" replaying it, IN SLOW MOTION WITH A BIG *frig* ARROW ON HIS FOOT NO LESS. All for a NOTHING single that cost us 27 yards of field position. If the officials miss the call that's their problem, don't do their job for them. Whose stadium is it anyway FFS?

Last game we were lucky not to get called for illegal use of electronic equipment when they taunted Durant TWICE about noise while he was in shotgun. Can we please get through the Argos game next week without any of this BUSH nonsense?
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Fully agree with you on this call, that took way too long to get blown in by the ref. There wasn't any advantage for the Lions netting the single at any rate. Hemming that young QB deep in his end was going to give the Lions a sure three points, maybe more. Instead, the Lions had to recapture field position.

If that return was 100+ yards...

Get the call right.

Big Point, as it made Winnipeg require a converted TD and FG to tie instead of win.

At the game tonight. I am going to be blunt, fans can be incredibly stupid. On the aforementioned missed FG, too many people cheering when they saw the Bomber potentially step out in the endzone. Like that was going to be a beneficial thing for the Lions if the call was overturned (which many of course cheered about when it was, until they realized that it cost the Lions 25 yards of field position) sigh.

As for the game, not a bad effort but they are still pulling some bones out of heads. Another two major calls tonight for unnecessary roughness. 1 led directly to 3 points for the Bombers who ended up scrimmaging on our 35 after one such call on a return.

Hate to say it for a D who allowed only 3 FG's, they are still using that idiotic 3 man rush. In the first half, Willy was regularly getting 3 and 4 steamboats while by contrast Glenn was lucky to get two most of the time.

As for the O, Glad to see the ball being spread around a little but the loss of Taylor and then Haidara hurt. There were a couple of missed opportunities when the ball was late getting to the receiver allowing the defender to recover and break up the play.

I was listening to the post game show tonight and I thought they were out in La, la land in their descriptions of this game. We managed 1 point for the 3rd Q against a team playing their 2nd string QB. At one juncture it was 16 to 9 in the 4th. Hardly a stellar effort considering the mediocre nature of the Bomber defense. It wasn't until the last 10 mins that the Lions managed enough to pull away for good. Our O is still very hit and miss and of the 101 rushing yards, Harris got tonight, probably 40 of them came in the last drive in garbage time. I know a yard is a yard but supposing the Bombers had recovered that fumble on the Glenn sack tonight? 1 TD and the entire complexion of the game might have been altered.

Still a win is a win and for the most part the Bighill, Elimimian duo was joyful to watch. Both played superbly tonight and I noticed Mitchell a couple of times too which was nice for a change (mentioned on the post game show as well). Westerman also had a nice sack tonight which was good to see. The duo of Logan and Harris was also fun to watch because their respective styles of play are so different. So we move on to Toronto next. Hopefully some of our injured guys tonight are good to go next game because I think we will need them esp. Taylor.
Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting the call right, but that's the officials' job. Let the officials officiate and game ops... I dunno, keep inundating us with pleas to MUH-MUH-MAKE SOME NOI-OISE.

As for the rouge, it was far too early (still Q3) to get into hypotheticals over that. If it were say, after the 3MW, and up 9 as it was (15-6) I might see the merit in taking the single. Besides, if MB really wanted that point he could have challenged for it, but didn't.

That was a great defensive effort. To go two games without giving up a touchdown is an outstanding accomplishment. Led by Solomon Elimimian, the defence has given up just three touchdowns in five games, and they're getting better as the season goes along. Six of the Bombers' nine points tonight were the result of 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalties on the Lions.

The Lions lead the league in most defensive categories, including fewest yards and points allowed. They don't blitz much and they don't get a lot of pressure on the quarerback but they don't have to when they can play straight up and shut teams down.

There's often a tendency by fans to equate offensive success with team success, but that's not the case. Defence wins championships, with the Lions' 2006 and 2011 defences being great examples of that saying. This year's defence is as good as any in the league, and may be better than any of the Lions' Grey Cup-winning defences since 1964. The Lions don't need a lot of offence when they can hold opponents to an average of less than 18 points a game.

Offensively, Kevin Glenn has become a much more efficient quarterback as the season has gone along, and the running game came alive tonight in the second half when the Lions simplified their blocking scheme, allowing Harris and Logan to pile up yards on cutbacks. Simple, smash-mouth football is fun to watch.

:whs: You'd think he'd gone all the way for a TD on the return the way the crowd reacted.

Bit surprised that Arceneaux was named Offensive Star of the Game. I thought Kevin Glenn was deserving of that accolade tonight. He looked confident and was getting his passes off quickly. Liked the way the Lions attacked the Bomber defence vertically. It was plainly obvious that the Lions had simplified their game plan. One play that symbolize the apparent new attitude of the offence was when the safety Leggett was injured. On the very next play, the Lions immediately went after his replacement down the middle. This has been lacking in the previous games.

That was a good, aggressive play call, and an excellent catch by Arceneaux. As soon as I saw Leggett go down, I was hoping the Lions would exploit his absence by going deep. Leggett is one of the best safeties in the league. He came back a few plays later and continued to play well, but that one play set a tone for the offence.
