Another Anti CFL sports channel

Postby Bobbyp on Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:59 pm

I see that TSN is now allowed to show movies, and Im assuming its because there isnt enough sports to put on their network. Pokers on all of the sports channels all the time. Rogers Sportsnet was supposed to be regional showing regional sports which they never did, Ive never seen UBC or SFU anything sport being played on it. We now have
The Score
TSN
TSN2
Sportsnet Pacific
West
East
Ontario
And I heard today that they are adding another Sportsnet channel... That will make 8 sports channels not to mention the sport specific only channels. What exactly are they going to be showing? Im sure it will not have any CFL ever. What the hell is the CRTC doing?
Some mispelling may or may not occur as well as using a word incorrectly in my posts

Most of the sports are covered in the first 30 minutes, the second half is just a repeat of the first.

What are you talking about?

TSN bought exclusive rights to broadcast all CFL games, which it does, complete with pre-game and half-time shows. In addition, it produces a significant amount of daily CFL reports and stories, some of which are of a special and high-quality nature. Sportsnet also reports extensively on the CFL on a daily basis. Quite often the lead stories on these two channels are about the CFL. For anyone actually paying attention, it is obvious that Canada's two major sports channels are very supportive of and attentive to the CFL.

Nothing in your post supports your suggestion to the contrary.

This sort of pathetic, woe-is-us-poor-CFL-fans, nobody-likes-us-everybody-hates-us whining that seems to pervade this board is exactly why I don't come here as much anymore. This inferiority complex is just f'ing sad.

You people really need to pull your heads out of your asses.

Lumping everyone on this site together in one generalized insult isn't a good way to make a point either.

Well said Soundy. This board is full of fans that pat themselves obn the back after WE win and kick the crap out of coaches and players when THEY lose.

"You people" refers specifically to the chronic whiners, not the board denizens as a whole. Sorry for not making that clear.

It's not even that - that's typical of sports fans in general... that, and if WE win, it's because WE were so good, but never because the other team sucked; yet if THEY win, it's because WE sucked, never because the other team was just that good.

No, it's more the constant complaining about being "second class citizens" and "not getting respect" as Lions/CFL fans. It's continually managing to find (or invent) ways in which they perceive they've been dissed by the media, the city, or the world in general, because of their preference of sports.

The OP is a prime example: with nothing at all to back it up, he announces a just-announced, yet-to-be-launched TV network is "anti-CFL." The channel hasn't even gone online yet, FFS, and already they're dissing "us"? He lumps TSN in as "anti-CFL", despite their having purchased the broadcast rights to the entire league... their crime apparently being not having 24/7/365 CFL coverage.

It's the same thing with the local media: oh noez, the Lions have to alternate stations with the Canucks! Oh noez, the Lions are now on the same station all the time, but it's not the MAIN station! Oh noez, this station sucks, I wish we were back with the old station! (despite the fact that the old station provided only a fraction of the time to pre- and post-game shows and had to fit the game in amongst regular sports and politcal talk). Oh woe is us, everyone hates us and trashes us!

The ones that always got me were people questioning whether the Lions should be suing the TEAM over the alternating Lions/Canucks station presence (ie. which would be on 1040 and which would be on 1410 when there were coincidental games), without a moment's consideration that such scheduling would be covered in contracts that BOTH clubs agreed to with the station IN ADVANCE.

Just a tip: if you want to people outside the Lions/CFL world to perceive you as a petulant foot-stomping spoiled child... the above behaviour is a purrfect way to start.

Oh, and according to these same folks... if you want to be a Lions fan, you're not allowed to like any other sports, either... especially not hockey, and PARTICULARLY not the Canucks.

:rotf: :hmm:

Riiiiight......

That's funny I was just about to remark how good the CFL coverage was on Sportsnet this morning-they had Casey coverage, they talked to Angus, Wally and Geroy, had the CFL plays of the week, a segment where they talked to Giulio, and a segment on the Argos/Als game-it was very good. I'm not sure what you're talking about either, bobbyp. I'm quite happy with the CFL coverage lately on the major sports networks. I'll also add that for 2 days in a row, there was Lions coverage on the back cover of the Province. Hell, I've almost accepted year round hockey talk because everything has been relatively well balanced.

It soundy's like you have an agenda that you want heard, I hear that there is another site out there for that. Don't bring it here and stay on topic, thank-you.

Sorry Rammer but this doesn't make sense. On the contrary; it speak directly to the subject.

I think it's a valid point when discussing coverage of certain sports, and people's response to it. I agree that some who complain that there isn't enough CFL coverage may have a hate-on for hockey, thereby seeing a biased view of coverage; never enough CFL, always too much hockey.

Actually it is directed at this board membership, not very much to do with the new Sportsnet Channel at all, IMO. The topic and SN is fair game, just don't try and divide membership into certain groupings.
