Well as I explained in my first posting, I created this list to compare a Lions second and further stints with the team with his first stint. And those who are in the bad list either didn't perform better or performed worst in his subsequent stints and as such, that applies to Joe Paopao's second and third stints.

Coming back from retirement as a QB in 1990, he was lower than average and eventually lost his starting job to Doug Flutie and in some cases, Major Harris and Rickey Foggie in the very disorganized season. And then as head coach in 1996 he didn't do well either with a 5-13 record (which incidentally was the last time the Lions missed the playoffs).

One forget that Paopao paid the team's expenses with his own credit card when the club failed to come through on time.

I got fooled on this thread. I was into the second page before I noticed it was a bumped thread from several years ago. As much as the players names jogged memories there were the handles of so many good Lionbackers who used to frequent these pages frequently.

I would put Nick Moore on the good list.

In light of Ricky Foley returning to the BC Lions organization, reviving this thread to track how he will do as a returning Lion.

To summarize, how does a returning Lion compare to his first stint as a Lion? Here's the general consensus for these former Lions:

BAD RETURNING BC LIONS

Jacques Chapdelaine
Wasn't it Chap 2.0 that was mostly responsible for redesigning the stagnant offence in the midst of the 2011 season and turning it into a championship? Or would that be Chap 3.0, which might put him onto both the good and bad lists.

:dizzy: You mean the 1990 season? Which particular game are you referring to? Perhaps one good outing, but one good outing does not automatically make him a good player again.

Admittedly, very debatable. I'll concede that he did better as an assistant coach than a player and I should list him in the good list. However, I'll also concede that he gets more than his share of criticism compared to others who returned (e.g. Dave Ritchie, Bob O'Billovich, Mark Washington) so I'm yielding to the general consensus.

There are different schools of thought on the 2011 turnaround. I maintain that the turnaround from the Lions' 0-5 and to their 11-2 finish was due mainly to personnel changes on defence, specifically in the secondary. The B.C. defence was ranked dead last in the first 5 games and first in the final 13 games, finishing a close second overall on the season.

On offence, the Lions began the season with Geroy Simon as their only proven weapon. They were too easy to defend. The addition of Arland Bruce, who replaced first-time starter Shawn Gore at slotback, gave the Lions two receiving weapons. Overall, their offensive production improved by only 20 yards a game afterwards but Bruce was the key receiver in their Grey Cup victory. There were no big changes in scheme or play-calling at midseason. They were just better able to execute Chap's offence.

take a look at his stats.

http://www.totalfootballstats.com/Playe ... id=1205626

his passer rating while not great was the best ever in 1990.
his pct completion was his second best
his td to int ratio was his best ever
his int% was his best ever
his td% was his 3rd best ever

not saying his stats were great, just that they were about the best ever for him.

Okay, I will grant you these statistics. I'd say very few if any would remember that as unfortunately, any good individual performances by Paopao in 1990 were simply overshadowed by:

1. The terrible and disorganized 1990 season.
2. Paopao was injured in the end and didn't start all the time.
3. Eventually Doug Flutie outshined him.
