Re: Ian Smart in ... A.J. Harris released - Mike Beamish

You have to admit... although RGM has had his ups and downs, he has given us some wonderful returns. Hard to knock a pair of 73 yard returns. Kinda weird though. For a guy with reputed 4.2 speed he seemed to get run down by the tackler fairly easily. That is not a complaint, however. I hope ...

Re: Ian Smart in ... A.J. Harris released - Mike Beamish

“The thing that was a little disappointing is that he [Harris] seemed to have more burst and speed in practice,” Buono said Tuesday. “He tailed off, and this is not a good time of the year to tail off,” Buono explained. Go figure. But it is true he did not look explosive vs the Schmos. Months ago, ...

Ian Smart in ... A.J. Harris released - Mike Beamish

Buono makes Smart choice for Sunday's semi-final By Mike Beamish, Vancouver Sun November 10, 2009 Lions coach Wally Buono viewed A.J. Harris as good insurance in the event of an injury to feature back Martell Mallett. But Buono decided to revoke his policy this week, releasing Harris outright and a...

Re: Predictions, Expectations for the Lions this Season ...

Thanks for digging into the archive, Robbie. D Line Hmmmm. Could be very good. But Cam Wake was a monster. Foley should be good. Gibbs and Williams J. should be good. Hunt and Johnson hopefully will be very good. IMO Butler has not shown anything yet. IMO we ask too much of our D Line and not...

Re: B.C.-Hamilton head to head

I hope we play well, hard and smart. On defence, I would be very happy if Benevides threw off the shackles of his defenders. Use some MTM pass coverage. Overload the LOS at times. Blitz often enough and well enough to create havoc. On offence, I would like to see a good anti-blitz package installed ...

Re: "It's the scheme, but I can't say it," - player to L Ullrich

I hear ya, Lionheart. On the other hand ... Ritchie had enough experience and confidence and a resume of such great achievement that he could hold Buono off on his conservative preferences and his interference with the defence. Benevides cannot do that. With Ritchie I expect the very, very long hour...

Re: It's Printers and Lulay Against Hamilton

The offensive line, already missing veteran centre Angus Reid, feels less pressure because of how cool their quarterback is under strain. Geroy Simon likes the fact that the shackles are off and Printers wants to exploit the playbook to its fullest extent. "The one thing that Casey always talk...

Re: "It's the scheme, but I can't say it," - player to L Ullrich

The way it must look to Wally is: If our D Line can handle double teaming, hold the gap, penetrate on a pass, and still be man enough to sprint to the sideline on a sweep or off-tackle play by a fast-moving running back, our scheme is fine. Otherwise, our execution is not good enough. Oh yeah, and o...

"It's the scheme, but I can't say it," - player to L Ullrich

from Lowell Ullrich's articles in the Province today, not found online by me, so no url ... After the 45-13 slaughter by the Eskimos ... Whatever you do, DON'T MENTION THE SCHEME. Buono thought (Jamall) Johnson, the current league leader in defensive tackles as a Hamilton starter, was no better than...

I dunno, Man.

Looking at that machine, I think it's shoulder looks a bit suspect. And does it have a hard noggin'? Can it take a hit?

OK, we'll give it a spot on the roster. 6th string, but be ready for action.

Re: NEWS FLASH: Season Not Over Yet!

Hallelujah! LOL We sure fought our way into the playoffs. Well, stranger things have happened, haven't they? Rally the troops. If any Lions flew home expecting it to be over, they are going to have to red-eye back in a hurry. We'll give them Saturday, Sunday and Monday off to rest up after th...

Re: Third Term Report Cards for the Coaches, November 6, 2009

Wally is the winningist coach in league history, so obviously the conservative approach works. I don't think we should fire him, but hire new OC and DC with autonomy to run their side of the football. The Lions are officially a losing team and heads should roll. Other than the Head Coach and 2 form...

Re: Mr. Wally Buono

Those calling for change, and those calling for status quo, and those calling for changes in the ranks of the assistants, can look back farther than just this year in making their judgments. Wally Buono has given the Lions 7 years of unmatched stability and quality in the team's history. It has been...

Re: Next year re: QBs

If Casey continues next year as he has started this year, he gives us an elite QB, as good as it gets in this league. I wonder if Wally arranged his contract effectively and appropriately? Hope he didn't screw it up as he has screwed up so many things lately. Throwing Zac to the wolves last night mi...
