Re: Lions' 2013 Free Agent Camps
For me, I would have to say that Ohio is a heartland of football. The conventional wisdom seems to be that the best prospects can be found in the U.S. South. The Eskimos, for example, have eight tryouts, seven in southern states (Texas 2, Alabama 2, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee) and one in Cincin...

Re: 2013 CFL free agents
I'd like to see a second NI defensive lineman in the rotation to allow an import to be used elsewhere but the Lions have a lot of import depth and appear content to use Westerman and a designated import as rotational backups. Aside from Taylor and Mitchell, who are traditional 300-pound nose tackles...

Re: Can Someone Please Explain the Import Ratio Issue?
When Tim Brown, for example, enters the game on offence to replace (non-import) Andrew Harris, the Lions balance the ratio by taking out an import starting receiver. Is it interchangeable ? For example, say Tim Brown gets injured. Can the import starting receiver that was taken out of the game to a...

Re: Can Someone Please Explain the Import Ratio Issue?
There are 19 imports on the roster (QBs don't count) - and 3 of the imports are DIs (designated imports); so that leaves 16 imports who can be starters; if they use say 5 imports on offence (2 OTs and 3 receivers say), that leaves 11 imports who can play as starters on defence; the DIs can come int...

Re: Lions' embarrassment of defensive riches - Lowell Ullric
The offensive and defensive ratio can't vary during a game. If a team uses six NIs on offence and one on defence, as the Lions did last year, they must always have one NI on defence. It could be a safety, linebacker or defensive lineman, but there must always be one.

Re: 2014 Grey Cup
The extent of Winnipeg's debt problem and its effect the club's football operations is spelled out in this Winnipeg Free Press article:
On-field product falls victim to debt
The Lions are lucky to have a first-class stadium and no worries about how to pay for it.

Re: Muamba "happy" to be a Bomber
At last year's Western Final, that opening TD that the Stamps scored was directly the result of Muamba. After that play, both Phillips and Banks went up to tell him off about being in the right position. Muamba was absolutely terrible in that game and I was quite surprised at how quickly and early ...

Re: 2014 Grey Cup
The Bombers issued a statement today denying that financial problems are the reason but admitting that it might be better to work out the stadium kinks before hosting a major event: Bombers CEO Garth Buchko is out of town and was unable to comment; however, club spokesman Darren Cameron offered the ...

Re: 2014 Grey Cup
Earlier this offseason I was reading stuff about money being very tight in Winnipeg for the next little while to the point it could impact their football operations in terms of hiring assistant coaches. That could explain why the Bombers have the smallest coaching staff in the league, with just 6 a...

Re: Ticket Prices / Lions' Marketing
It seems the Lions have recognized that the corner sections at B.C. Place have been overpriced. They've adjusted the seating map to cut prices in four sections, adding them to the cheapest "Touchdown Endzone" price category. I got a letter today asking if I want to move my season tickets t...

Re: 2013 CFL free agents
Does anyone on this forum see Brandon Whitaker as a potential pickup for the Leos? I'm not sure of his status, but he doesn't appear on the Montreal roster at the moment. Was he cut? Whitaker is a free agent but is coming off ACL surgery. He has indicated he wants to pursue NFL opportunities after ...

Re: Dan Hawkins, Head Coach of the Alouettes ...
Hawkins brought an American-sized coaching staff with him, appointing 11 assistants. That's the biggest staff of any CFL team. The Lions have 8 assistants.

Re: Lions' embarrassment of defensive riches - Lowell Ullric
The Lions want to reward Khreem Smith with a pay boost. They also want to keep Eric Taylor, rotate Keron Williams with Julius Williams, plus groom Jabar Westerman and fellow sophomore Brandon Jordan. Who would have predicted with the Lions' surplus of defensive talent that they'd want to give a pay...

Re: CFL Evaluation Camp Thread, March 22-24, 2013
The test results are often overrated. Anyone know where Steven Turner is these days ? It would be an interesting excercise to look up the top performers in each category each year and try to find out how many are in the CFL. My guess is not many. Not many end up as high draft choices either. 2012 E...

Re: Lions' O Line for 2013
Quite the contrary. The centre is the QB of the OL with perhaps his most important task being to read the defence and holler out blocking assignments. If Norman is being groomed to be the next centre there can't possibly be a better place to learn from than in the trenches shoulder to shoulder with ...
