Re: Another big CFL name bites the bullet, JJ Armour Released

IIRC Hufnagel had a zero tolerance last season for practice fights, looks like this is his example by fire. Zero tolerance for practice fights. Interesting. I tend to agree with that approach. Fighting with a teammate is self-indulgence, not a good way to build self-control or discipline. Plus it d...

Re: Korey Banks and the Nickel - Lowell Ullrich

He told Banks that for the most part he'll work this season as the Lions' nickel back, which was not so much an indictment of his play as a recognition that there's been a revolving door at the position ever since the two became boss and employee. Though further proof was really never needed, the t...

Re: Jarious Jackson and His Role with the Lions - Lowell Ullrich

At 32, Jackson has achieved a comfort level bestowed on very few with the Lions, slotted behind starter Buck Pierce in the winter and also unlikely to lose his job to third-string candidates Zac Champion or Travis Lulay. "The warts are still there; that's why we've asked him to take this role,...

Korey Banks and the Nickel - Lowell Ullrich

Nickel duties fine with Korey Banks By Lowell Ullrich, The ProvinceJune 22, 2009 They work out and do business deals together in the offseason. They play hand-in-glove on the same side of the field at work. Sure as Buck Pierce throws and Geroy Simon catches for the Lions, nothing seemed to be more ...

Jarious Jackson and His Role with the Lions - Lowell Ullrich

Money, family haven't cooled fighting spirit Says he still has a 'fiery edge' By Lowell Ullrich, The ProvinceJune 21, 2009 The birth of a child and discovery of relative financial stability are significant lifetime milestones and in the last six months Jarious Jackson of the Lions has enjoyed both ...

Re: Jamall Johnson Released

Johnson, who has spent the past four seasons with the Lions, was listed as a safety by the Buccaneers, his position in college at Northwestern State. JJ39 played safety in college. He can stop the run. He moves like lightning. IMO a better run stopping linebacker we could not find. It would seem he...

Re: Hameister-Reis done for the year?

Really unfortunate if that is the case about Hameister-Reis, he has less luck than Sammy Salo. Sorensen is going to need to pick it up quickly from any reports that I have heard, starting OL is another level than what he has been pegged at. I thought Sorensen looked very good on Saturday pm. He wor...

Re: Hameister-Reis done for the year?

That will accelerate the program for Justin Sorensen as a backup.

And Matt Morencie probably secured a spot on the team for the year, rather than being sent back to college for the year.

I hope Valli can get back to 100% quickly.

Re: 20090619 Training Camp Observations, Friday

afternoon practice, Saturday, June 20 QBs It seems to me the QBs have been instructed to tuck the ball away and run if the passing play is not there almost at once. Although it might seem like too many broken plays, or giving up on a play too soon, in many ways it would make sense. Running lanes are...

Re: Jamall Johnson Released

If I recall, Neil McAvoy said something to the effect of: Jamall Johnson had not reached starter status with the Lions. That does not sound like heart break at losing him. And it does not sound like they will be desperate to get him back. An excellent special teams player. I wonder if he was too &q...

Re: 20090619 Training Camp Observations, Friday

] Excellent and informative report as usual WC Joe! Jerome Dennis is listed at...

Re: 20090619 Training Camp Observations, Friday

afternoon practice, Friday ... QBs: Buck and Jarious not very sharp. Jarious especially. In goal line work he threw one at the receiver's feet in the flat, and badly missed another one. Sigh ... Champion and Lulay still looking very good. Receivers: Hand-eye coordination RGM seems to have this to a ...
