Re: 1984

Apparently in 1984 they were called the Sundancers. https://www.bpmcdn.com/f/files/shared/feeds/gps/2023/08/web1_230907-sul-lionscheer-1984_1.jpg;w=960 https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/366255562_7271414789541659_5035568804621071871_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=dd5e9f&a...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

The topic of comparing CFL stadiums was mentioned before in my CFL Stadiums thread: https://www.lionbackers.com/bc_lions/viewtopic.php?t=14142 But I'll give an update with help from https://www.stadiumjourney.com/cfl Just like how different teams have their own rules and policy on which players shou...

Re: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Thread

Donald Trump wins the New Hampshire primary.

Nikki Haley said that she will stay in the race until Super Tuesday on March 5. But we'll see if she will keep that word especially if she doesn't win on February 8 with the Nevada and Virgin Islands caucuses.

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

These are the numbers and their players that have been honoured by the Elks and at 35, that's a heck of a lot more than the Lions 10 on their own Ring of Honour. Also on the contrary, despite their long history the Calgary Stampeders only have 7 players with retired numbers: https://www.stampeders....

Several of these questions such as contribution to the community plus Hambone's ""
two variables: Tenure vs. Performance.
That is actually my quote, not Hambone's.

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

This is a great great great topic. And this post is a bit of a repeat but I hope it brings some more things into focus. Here are seven questions that are asked in the evaluation process of whether or not to retire a number: 1) Are they a Hall of Famer? 2) Did they help a team win a championship? 3)...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

Tenure as a qualification for honouring a player be it Hof, # retired, Ring of Honour, is a tricky one with the CFL. Cam Wake only played 3 years in the CFL before having a stellar NFL Career. Mervyn Fernandez only played 5 years in the CFL before heading to the NFL, and 6 stellar NFL seasons. Warr...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

Or how about following the Edmonton Elks policy with their many players inducted to their Wall of Honour. With their great history, there are lots of players inducted however it was agreed that the Elks keep the numbers in circulation rather than retire them from use. These are the numbers and their...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

For everyone else, though, we can debate whether a Ring/Wall of Honor is enough. Let me give you an example. This player was a Lion for a decade, started for a decade and won two Grey Cups. He was generally regarded as one of the best players in the league at his position for the bulk of his tenure...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

Cromartie, which #9 are you talking about, Roy Dewalt or Damon Allen? I favour Dewalt as I was never all that big of an Allen fan. IMO, Allen's claim to fame was his super long career which enabled him to amass impressive career stats. But in reality, for most of his career there were other QBs who...

Re: 2023-24 NFL/Seahawks Season Thread

Close wins in the other conference semi-finals. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave the Detroit Lions a scare by tying the game three times and was deadlocked at 17-17 heading into the fourth quarter before the Lions got two TD's to take a larger lead to prevent a comeback by Tampe Bay for a 31-23 win. An...

Re: 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Thread

Vivek Ramaswamy and Asa Hutchinson have withdrawn as well. So now it's a three way race between Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley. I'd say if neither DeSantis nor Haley win the next few primaries, they will withdraw as well leaving Trump uncontested for the Republican nomination. Even before the...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?

It's up to the franchise to make their own decisions on which players should have their numbers retired. And when they do so, they do so at their own risk with regards to: 1. Running out of eligible numbers for their current roster. 2. Controversy for "newer and better" players who should ...

Re: 2023-24 NFL/Seahawks Season Thread

In extreme cold, the Buffalo Bills ensured that the Pittsburgh Steelers won't upset them by jumping to a 21-0 lead. A blocked field goal late in the second quarter seemed to shift the momentum and narrowed the lead 24-17 halfway in the fourth quarter. But Bills touchdown sealed the deal with a 31-17...
