Re: Re:
A pretty decent podcast interview with Rick Campbell who gives an update where the Lions are as free agency nears. Says there are six more players they would still like to re-sign among their 15 remaining FAs. Of course a back-up QB will be #1 on their shopping list if nothing happens sooner. https...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
The tight operating margins in the CFL already require GMs to be prudent managers of the SMS. Players know they have to produce to be paid. I much prefer the football system over that of other sports, where teams are often burdened with fulfilling bad contracts long after the player’s value has dimi...

Re: Should CFL teams retire numbers of stars?
I don't care one way or another, but I think the Ring of Honour in the stadium carries more recognition than a retired number. The Lions have retired 10 numbers. That's a lot, when you consider each retired number means another number has to be duplicated when 100 players take to the field in traini...

Re: Lions release Rhymes
Tim Baines of Postmedia says Rhymes was scheduled to have made $235,000 in B.C. this year, and that his new deal in Ottawa has a base salary of $195,000.

Re: Lions release Rhymes
Farhan Lalji confirms the Lions asked Rhymes to restructure his contract and he refused. The Lions still hope to sign Cottoy but maybe not Whitehead.

Re: Lions release Rhymes
Maybe not shocking. He did miss 6 games in 2021 and 8 in 2023. At times last year he didn't seem to be his old 2022 self, perhaps due to injuries. There gets to be a point where the club simply doesn't see the player bringing the value his salary calls for. Agreed. In his prime, Rhymes was a clutch...

The Lions have also confirmed they’ve re-signed Stefan Flintoft.

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Close to being an excuse from a GM for Mizzell needing the year to acclimatize but it does establish that the Lions are going to be patient with him for now. The ELC works in their favour and could be they are right about year two being an improvement. Time will tell. From a bringing in some compet...

Re: CFL Coaching & GM Changes for 2024
New Saskatchewan head coach and B.C. native Corey Mace has filled out his staff with a lot of young ex-players, including former B.C. and Calgary DB Josh Bell as pass game coordinator and DB coach, Surrey native and onetime Lion Jordan Linnen as defensive assistant, former Edmonton linebacker J.C Sh...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Timely article given the recent conversations in this thread. I'm not surprised as I think given the makeup of the offense they aren't willing to spend much of their budget in the backfield. Want to spend big $ on a tailback means letting somebody like Cottoy or Hollins walk. I can understand where...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
Don't expect the Lions to enter the bidding for a starting free-agent running back. Co-GM Neil McEvoy says the Lions are banking on Taquan Mizzell blossoming in his second year in the league, and he particularly likes the way Mizzell blocked for Vernon Adams. “I felt that he had a lot of good games....

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
According to J.J. Adams, co-GM Neil McEvoy is optimistic about retaining the team's priority free agents, including Ben Hladik and Josh Woods. He's less optimistic about Mathieu Betts, and admits Lucky Whitehead isn't among the Lions' top priorities. McEvoy also says that Keon Hatcher is a special c...

Re: CFL Coaching & GM Changes for 2024
This is shaping up as a year of change in Bomberland, with new defensive and special teams coordinators, and Mike O’Shea hinting that they’ll likely lose some high-priced veteran players. The Bombers were lucky not to lose Buck Pierce as OC, but he may have fewer weapons at his disposal.
