Re: Training camp 2024
Mild surprise re; Way as they've seen something they liked to have kept bringing him back. However it might be saying a lot .ore about the newcomers they've brought in than him. I'm counting 102 on the roster now so must be a 3rd one dropped since yesterday. Should be down to needing to trim 7 more...

Re: Training camp 2024
Rookie mini-camp wound up Friday with a crisp padded practice that featured some big plays on both sides of the ball. Quarterbacks and receivers took lots of deep shots in one-on-ones. WR Jalon Sample, who had a good day all around, was one of several receivers with deep TD catches. He was followed ...

Re: Training camp 2024
The Lions have wasted no time trimming their roster. The only cuts that have been confirmed so far are WR Jamarius Way and American kicker Shana McDonough but position groups were considerable smaller for the final day of mini-camp. I counted 42 players on the field for positional drills but 53 at t...

Re: Training camp 2024
The afternoon half of Thursday's mini-camp started more low key, with walkthoughs to install plays and teach special teams coverage, as well as some positional drills. I counted 57 players in uniform, including receiver Jamarius Way, who was a limited participant. For the first time, Global draft pi...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I'm not sure if these off season deals are a bonus for the prior year OR as IIRC Hambone suggested once (correct me if I get this wrong) that it's sort an advance on the upcoming season. The CFL SMS is based on entirely on player payments during the calendar year. Contracts are paid out in equal in...

Re: Training camp 2024
Lions' rookies were joined by quarterbacks Vernon Adams, Jake Dolegala, Dakota Prukop and Chase Brice for the first full practice of mini-camp Thursday morning at sunny Hillside Stadium in Kamloops. Other returnees from last year's training camp included receivers Ayden Eberhardt and Bryson Daughtry...

Re: Training camp 2024
Looks like rookie camp starts with walkthru Wednesday night at 5pm. I guess the main purpose of rookie camp is cut 15 of 50 guys before vets report. I’ve seen the odd player excel in rookie camp and immediately take first-team reps at the start of main camp. Barring injuries, I doubt that we’ll see...

Re: League Thows The Book at Chad Kelly
That’s a huge suspension but well warranted, given the league’s strong stance against gender-based violence. Kelly has had a history of off-field troubles. It will be interesting to see if he can come back from this one. https://3downnation.com/2024/05/07/cfl-suspends-toronto-argonauts-qb-chad-kelly...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
There are plenty of bad GMs and bad contracts in all sports. I much prefer to see teams be able to flush mistakes than to have to pay millions of dollars a year to overpaid, underperforming players with no-movement clauses in other sports. It's a two-way street. Players have the NFL tryout window, w...

Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents
I don't know if there's something going on with Riley Pickett but BC just signed long-time veteran NFL LS Kyle Nelson. Maybe it's just a favour for Kyle's old man Mark who was on Campbell's staff in Ottawa from 2014 thru 2019 and guest coached in Kamloops in 2022. https://3downnation.com/2024/05/02...

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington
During an interview with Donny and Dhali, Covington said his weight ranged between 305 and 315 in recent years in the NFL. He said he trimmed down to 280 to prepare for the speed of the Canadian game.

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington
Neil McEvoy admitted to J.J. Adams today that Menard was a cap casualty due to the signing of Covington. He said Stove Richardson approached the Lions about a month ago and said he didn’t think he was ready to return, so he retired “for now.” It sounds like the door is still open to him, as well as ...

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington
Wow! The Lions have also released David Menard. One step forward with the signing of Covington and two steps back with the release of Richardson and Menard. I suspect these moves are cap related.

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington
This is a huge signing, and I’m not referring to Covington’s size and strength. As others have said, he and Stove Richardson can be difference-makers in the middle if they’re healthy and in game shape. Having national status as a local product from Vancouver College bolsters the CFL’s deepest nation...
