Re: Lions Running Attack 2017

On another note -- another potential reason to scream (but not at all in a good way) is if one of our quieter heroes year in year out -- Rolly Lumbala -- can't be adequately substituted for/replaced if and when (God forbid) necessary. Whether suddenly our situation changes, due to injury or advanci...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

He has signed a reserve/futures contract, so a roster spot is not a given.... I wonder if Wally has received some level of assurance that Brett Boyko will be signing with the Lions and thus will be one of our National tackles? That would be great news but Boyko has signed with San Diego for 2017. U...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Farhan's latest tweets don't shed much light on why the Als and not the Lions are trying to negotiate an extension with Jovan at a lower salary. Farhan LaljiVerified account @FarhanLaljiTSN Further to my report re possible Olafioye trade, #BCLions in talks with #Als. Next step is if Mtl can negotiat...

Re: Lions looking at tailgate parties this season?

I just filled out the same survey. I'm not a tailgater. My usual routine is to get into B.C. Place when the doors open, grab a couple of stadium hot dogs and watch the team warmups. That's not likely to change but others in my crew are more interested in tailgating. And since I plan to give up my re...

Re: Seat relocation

End zone seats are the best. I sat on the sidelines at Empire in the 1960s and '70s and in the corner of the end zone at B.C. Place for a while before moving down low near the middle of the end zone around the turn of the century, and I love these seats more than any others I've had in the stadium. ...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

In this league, teams will usually go as far as their backup quarterback will take them. With one or two exceptions (Henry Burris for four straight years from 2012 to 2015, Mike Reilly in 2013 and Jonathon Jennings in 2016), starting QBs don't play all 18 games. Travis Lulay can't make the same thro...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

I hope his means the Lions are planning to move Hunter Steward to his natural position at LT and start four nationals on the O-line. Olafioye has been good but he was better at RT than LT, and the Lions can fill the RT spot with a cheaper player.

Re: Free Agent Market and Free Agent Camps

Ask Vince Ferragamo about that 12th man. BB The cardinal rule for an NFL quarterback coming to the CFL is to forget everything he ever learned about reading coverages. I remember Ferragamo's debut well, going 13 of 30 with 2 interceptions in losing 48-8 to the Lions at Empire Stadium in 1981. He co...

Re: Rintoul is toast (grab the pitch forks and storm TSN 104

Iain MacIntyre has a lot more background on the deal, which he says is believed to be worth about $2 million a year, much less than the $3.5 million a year that TSN had paid for the previous radio rights. Canuck chief operating officer Jeff Stipec is aware how his new five-year deal with Rogers Spor...

Re: Rintoul is toast (grab the pitch forks and storm TSN 104

The loss of Canucks broadcasting rights will definitely hurt TSN 1040, which has gone all-in on Canucks talk all year long. I'm not sure there's a market for another sports talk radio station in Vancouver, though. TSN 1040 is the 14th rated station of 19 stations in the Vancouver market. TSN 1410 is...

Re: Final wrap on free agency: Offence and Defence

Good breakdown, Blitz. I'm encouraged by Mark Washington's offseason statements that the Lions need to generate more turnovers, especially interceptions. I think a lot of the problem last year was personnel. Ryan Phillips used to feast on reading QBs and jumping routes in zone coverage. He just coul...

Re: I just saw a unicorn grazing in a field of 4 leaf clover

The Lions did well to send out a media availability notice for the two QBs on a day when there were no other local sports happenings. Here's Mike Beamish's story:

Re: Should next Lions owner(s) consider a minor celebrity st

I'm leery of the prospect of the Lions being a secondary property of the Canucks ownership group, and having a hockey player as the public face of Lions ownership would just reinforce my fear of the Lions becoming a toy like Francesco's wine collection. Hmmm, I am a bit confused by what you mean he...

Re: Should next Lions owner(s) consider a minor celebrity st

Supplemental to David's question: If the Aquilini family buys the Lions, would you want them to bring in a current or former hockey player as a celebrity owner or team executive? I'm leery of the prospect of the Lions being a secondary property of the Canucks ownership group, and having a hockey pla...
