Re: Yikes! Lions 2024 potential free agents

I don't know if there's something going on with Riley Pickett but BC just signed long-time veteran NFL LS Kyle Nelson. Maybe it's just a favour for Kyle's old man Mark who was on Campbell's staff in Ottawa from 2014 thru 2019 and guest coached in Kamloops in 2022. https://3downnation.com/2024/05/02...

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington

During an interview with Donny and Dhali, Covington said his weight ranged between 305 and 315 in recent years in the NFL. He said he trimmed down to 280 to prepare for the speed of the Canadian game.

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington

Neil McEvoy admitted to J.J. Adams today that Menard was a cap casualty due to the signing of Covington. He said Stove Richardson approached the Lions about a month ago and said he didn’t think he was ready to return, so he retired “for now.” It sounds like the door is still open to him, as well as ...

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington

Wow! The Lions have also released David Menard. One step forward with the signing of Covington and two steps back with the release of Richardson and Menard. I suspect these moves are cap related.

Re: Lions sign Christian Covington

This is a huge signing, and I’m not referring to Covington’s size and strength. As others have said, he and Stove Richardson can be difference-makers in the middle if they’re healthy and in game shape. Having national status as a local product from Vancouver College bolsters the CFL’s deepest nation...

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)

It's going to be an uber-competitive camp with some very talented NAT players not making the 46 or PR. Training camp injuries of course can change things. Perhaps we will see some trades to clear some of the log jams? True, but I don’t expect the Lions to send any very talented NAT players packing....

The Lions took defensive players with their fourth, fifth and sixth and seventh picks before taking a flyer on TE Theo Johnson with their final pick in the 8th round.

With 3 WRs and RB Michael Chris-Ike off the board, the Lions took a hometown gamble on Theo Benedet with the 15th pick.

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)

The Lions selected two punters in today’s CFL Global draft, Carl Meyer from South Africa and Tory Taylor from Australia. https://www.bclions.com/2024/04/30/lions-grab-k-p-carl-meyer-p-tory-taylor-in-global-draft/ No disrespect to Stefan Flintoft, but using a designated American roster spot for a pun...

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)

Barring a generational talent, you prioritize building from the trenches out. Always. That’s conventional CFL wisdom but it hasn’t worked for the Lions, who have had little success when they used high draft picks on O-linemen. The only national linemen on the roster who they have drafted or develop...

Re: 2024 CFL draft (Lion's picks)

With the CFL draft set to begin Tuesday at 5 p.m., a number of prospects have likely fallen down the draft board due to NFL interest. Hulking UBC OT Giovanni Manu was drafted in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions , while UBC teammate Theo Benedet signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the C...

Re: Rourke now a NE Patriot

As expected, the Patriots used the third overall pick in the NFL draft on a potential franchise quarterback, Drake Maye of North Carolina. Maye is young and raw at 21, having spent only two years as a starter in college. The Patriots will likely have to rely on journeyman backup Jacoby Brissett to l...

Re: Training camp 2024

When they changed TC practices to more walk throughs than actual hitting and play making, I lost interest in attending as it just seemed more difficult to figure out what was going on. Yes, that's another factor. There are still some padded practices in camp but I don't even try to evaluate line pl...
