Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

the solomon elimimian radio ad still makes me cringe every time i hear it. can't believe they're still running them. so unbelievably awkward, and just putridly bad and bizarre and wrongheaded. "is he a hipster with a man bun, about to get his achilles blown out? the next game will tell!!" i mean, W...

Re: Burnett and Gaitor released

I too would like to see Lulay as the Lions OC, however I think he still wants to play. I suspect he will start the season as QB coach and sign a (1/2 year or whatever) backup QB contract once healthy. He then goes shopping for a free agent starting QB contract in 2019. That might be a bit too quick...

Re: Burnett and Gaitor released

I was very aware that Long was a field goal kicker who learned to punt this season but obviously got it mixed up in my post. Wally tried unsuccessfully and stubbornly to convert two punters (Duncan O'Mahoney, Richie Leone) into field goal kickers but getting a field goal kicker in Ty Long also lear...

Re: Burnett and Gaitor released

Actually Blitz Ty Long has learned to punt on the fly. He was a placekicker in college. He only recorded 5 punts in his 4 years at UAB. He fits Fera's description of himself as a placekicker who also punted. Nonetheless it's a great story to see a kid like Long who was a specialist in one area come ...

Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

lions marketing is being run on a skeleton staff because of braley. Most of the key staff bob mentored left for canucks or more $ elsewhere a while ago. Despite that a comparative look at the admin staff of a lot of other CFL clubs shows the Lions are staffed up in a very similar fashion when it co...

Re: Burnett and Gaitor released

Burnett and Gaitor were released earlier today. Burnett had been supplanted by Awe and Gaitor had been torched for some big plays in recent weeks. Too bad with Gaitor, he did a good job last year slotting in last year when Yell and Lee went down to injury. But it didn’t translate to this year. Such...

Re: Lions ownership discussion thread

It's a factor that a seller in declaring outstanding litigation but if this is the hangup I can't see anyone buying a team as this issue will not go away with a couple of lawsuits. Every business is open to lawsuits. As such whoever owns the club in the future could be sued at any given time for an...

Re: Is it time to institute replay for helmet to helmet contact?

Football - we see some injury inducing shoulder hits as a player is going down and they're excused as the player is lowering their head. Naaman Roosevelt is one such hit and Nik Lewis (among others) tweeted all night that it was not the defender's fault. There was no need for the hit on Roosevelt l...

Re: Lions ownership discussion thread

Good grief, what a mess. If Braley truly cared for this team and its fan base, then he would find a way to get this franchise into local hands where new owners could fix all the things he is either oblivious to, in denial about, or blindly loyal to. Now it's litigation and "clear assets" that's pre...

Re: Lions ownership discussion thread

Braley was also accused of "dithering" the Argos sale to supposedly extract the maximum sale price, but he said after the deal concluded that Rogers was very tough to deal with, which held up negotiations. Rogers evicted the Argos from Skydome on the premise they were planting grass (a ridiculous i...

Re: 2017 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

I see they have unleashed their 2018 season ticket campaign. Big incentive is get a bonus ticket for an extra game if you purchase by Nov. 3. Have a feeling it's not going to create a mad rush. Of course the same old pricing structure including keeping those sections between the 20-30 yard lines as...

Re: Lions ownership discussion thread

IMO if Braley isn't already past exploratory discussions and into some form of formal negotiations by now then this club will not have new owners in place until well after New Years. Deals like selling a pro sports franchise take months not days or weeks. I remain confident a sale will happen by yea...

Re: Trade deadline -Lions sellers?

CFL trade deadlines being what they are more often than not if 1 trade happens it can be considered a frenzy to coin the overworked NHL schtick. Last year I think the Capicciotti trade to Hamilton was the only one. The year before there were a couple deals as the Riders were having a mini-garage sal...

Re: Player transactions

I thought that the Lions liked Boatrights play. OTOH they do have a lot of D linemen, just none that are dominate. :bang: Yes, the arrival of Alex Bazzie pushed the other defensive ends down the depth chart. I'm somewhat surprised, though, that Josh Shirley and Andrew Hudson were the two rookies wh...

Re: Lions sign 5 players to practice roster

these guys are only coming in for tryouts ... then they will be offered next year Training camp spots if they show well ... these guys will not even see the field unless we have massive injuries; no airlifts anymore the league is too good. Bingo! We have a winner. Exactly right. One of the receiver...
