Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

Why is it that you are not required to be a citizen to vote in the candidate nomination meeting? At all other levels, you are required to be a citizen, but to nominate a candidate, you only need residency. I will venture a guess and say it is because the respective parties hope to secure their supp...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

Ideally for me, I would like to see party politics outlawed. I would like it to be manadatory that everyone runs as independant and provable collusion of any kind a serious crime. I would also like a separate vote for country head of state. On your first point, it will require a constitutional amen...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

While many don't like Jean Chretien, if you look at what happened on his watch as PM, the deficit went to surplus, the economy grew in leaps and bounds, and Canada was respected around the world except by George Bush who has little respect for those who don't like his jack boot techniques on countr...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

My only issue lately is the ethnic politics where ethnic groups are recruited to nominate their guy. There is some danger in that as Canadians don't join political parties sadly. It's an interesting issue that gets little discussion. Why is it that you are not required to be a citizen to vote in th...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

Unfortunately, the British Conservative party has, like most others, taken a page from the populist book, and its leader is now (largely) selected by its membership rather than its caucus. Interesting but unfortunate! Thanks for the update. If you're keen on British politics, I highly recommend the...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

My fix for this is to get youth voting at 16 and establish a culture of voting as the polls can be right in the high schools. Their classes regularly bring in candidates and what better way to get adults voting than by having youth vote. Sixteen-year-olds voting would be wonderful. When I was sixte...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

The British make their leaders accountable to the elected MPs as it is they who elect their leader who becomes Prime Minister. In Canada, it is the party members who vote in the leader and then most parties do some sort of leadership review vote from time to time to make them accountable. On the su...

Re: 2008 Canadian Federal Election Thread

BCLions16 - To fix our system we need to do one of two things: - Separate the PM and Privy Council from parliament, or; - Find a way to TRULY make the PM and party leaders accountable to MPs, and not the other way around. You don't want the first choice or you will create a US style system and noth...

Re: Boden Signed

The number of injured or slightly dinged Canadians compelled GM Bob O'Billovich to bring in Canadian receiver Josh Boden, who was showing promise in B.C. before he incurred off-field problems and Wally Buono released him. Muscular and fast, Boden has potential and Obie said being removed from his h...

Nope.

Toronto will go 3-3 and Hamilton will be 5-1 in their final six games. Edmonton will be 0-6. All three are 7-11. Sorry, Edmonton - NO PLAYOFFS FOR YOU!!!

Re: Who do you think is the best OLineman this year so far?

Hey Lionbackers.....curious to get your thoughts on this question. Now that we have all of our starters back together on the line, things have been different the past three games. Let's hear what you think. I'm still waiting for the question..... I think the question was this: Who do you think is t...

If any of you are obsessively keen on this, I recommend the Hill & Knowlton Election Predictor. Not an exact science, but you can adjust the overall voter intentions from the last election to see how many seats each party will win. http://predictor.hillandknowlton.ca/predictor/ http://predictor....

Re: Where will the Lions finish?

David Pratt senses the Lions have turned the corner and suggests the team is going to win 7 of its 8 final games — perhaps even overtaking the Riders for top spot in the West. I agree the offence is on a roll the past couple of games but I still need to be more convinced the defence has returned to...
