RIP Larry Highbaugh

CFL Hall Of Famer Larry Highbaugh just passed away in the state of Georgia, where he'd been teaching. He was 67 years old. STORY HERE. Although known as a perennial All-Star DB with the Esks, Mr. Highbaugh got his CFL start with the Leos in 1971. He came to the club on August 16 on a 5 day trial. He...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Blitz, I am in total agreement. I guess we can say 'no news is good news' as I have heard nothing from Jovan's camp. Or Wally. Or anyone from the Lions for that matter. By all accounts, Swayze Waters is a charming young man. Community minded, devoted to his family and religion, and a good quote. But...

Re: Lions looking at tailgate parties this season?

I suppose it is a step in the right direction, but it's only a baby step and likely the only step. Bringing sandwiches and buying overpriced beer is NOT tailgating. Can't say I blame them for trying to monetize the pre game experience but let's call it what it is ... whatever that is *lol I agree 1...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

There is also the potential to get a pretty good return in this trade. Sure, there is potential for a decent return for Jovan, but I believe there's a better than even chance of Wally ending up wearing a 'fleece' sweater, courtesy of Kavis Reed. 1) We're limiting our trade partners to Eastern Divis...

Lions looking at tailgate parties this season?

The Lions just sent out a season ticket holder survey that asked how I get to games. They seemed to want to know if I was interested in some form of a tailgate experience (presumably ripping a page from the Argos book from last season?). One of the questions was: If there was a pre-game tailgate exp...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Rick Dhaliwal is tweeting that Montreal is the interested party. Rick Dhaliwal‏ @DhaliwalSports The #BCLions and Montreal talking trade about OL Jovan Olafioye. Work to be done before deal done. The problem is, if Wally is to get fair value in return, the player(s) he receives are going to count aga...

Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Two rumours recently surfaced about Wally shopping Jovan Olafioye. The 2nd report today provides more details, so I am posting a link HERE. It seems we overspent on free agents (really?!? I think we came up rather light compared to some other teams. Perhaps it was inking all those veterans to extens...

Re: Rintoul is toast (grab the pitch forks and storm TSN 104

According to one source, the Canucks’ owners have made an offer which, depending on who you talk to, was either rejected or is being considered. The $64,000 question: If Braley had accepted the Aquilini offer instead of letting him twist in the wind, would Aquilini have just kept things status quo ...

Re: Final wrap on free agency: Offence and Defence

Our defense needs to play more man defense in 2017 and to play some press man. It also needs to run some combo man/zone coverages. Perhaps the off-season signings of 6'3" 205lb Robert Brown and 6'1" 190lb Buddy Jackson signals a philosophical change from predominantly soft zone coverage t...

Vintage Lions jersey #66 up for auction on Ebay

Interestingly, the owner of this jersey is playing up the fact that it's Emery Barnes's jersey, as well as the 1964 Grey Cup win. There's just one problem. Emery Barnes never wore it (he never played in the 1964 Grey Cup game either, but that's another story). http://www.ebay.com/itm/rare-1964-BC-Li...

I just saw a unicorn grazing in a field of 4 leaf clovers!

The Lions led off both Global and CTV dinner hour sportscasts. In March! When nobody was signed! Actually, no mention of the Whitecaps on either report which surprised me, as they just played last night. :bb: The media scrum today was about JJ and Travis's great friendship and rapport. Apparently bo...

Re: Should next Lions owner(s) consider a minor celebrity st

Two candidates are: the "Rock" who recently tweeted some favourable comments about the CFL and Wally Buono...and Jon Bon Jovi who was part owner of an Arena team and the front-man for Toronto's Buffalo Bills bid (with T. Rogers and L. Tannenbaum). Dwayne Johnson (aka "The Rock")...

Re: Should next Lions owner(s) consider a minor celebrity st

I'm leery of the prospect of the Lions being a secondary property of the Canucks ownership group, and having a hockey player as the public face of Lions ownership would just reinforce my fear of the Lions becoming a toy like Francesco's wine collection. Hmmm, I am a bit confused by what you mean he...

Should next Lions owner(s) consider a minor celebrity stake?

While hardly a ground breaking concept, I've thought about the potential for the next ownership group to bring a celebrity on board, just for a minority share and to act as a brand ambassador. Other local clubs have done it - Michael Buble shills for the Vancouver Giants and Steve Nash has some kind...

Re: Throwback Thursday

Being "Throwback Thursday," I thought some of you might like to look at some colour footage of our Leos in 1963 and 1964 (our first "Glory Years"). The first is a home playoff game against Saskatchewan in November 23, 1963 (one day after US President Kennedy was assassinated by L...
