Whether or not they thought he was "worth" that, they simply didn't have the room for it under the cap. I don't think they could have afforded him even at $5M. As it is, he's getting around $6.2M from Phoenix... no way we could have matched that with what we're paying Naslund and Luongo.

My bad - SECOND longest. From Wikipedia:

"Despite years of mediocrity and the stigma of never being able to "take the next step", the Blues were a playoff presence every year from 1980 to 2004 ? the second longest active streak in North American professional sports at the time."

I dunno about percentages, but the St. Louis Blues held an all-time pro-sports record of 25 consecutive playoff appearances up until they bombed out last season...

BOOYAH!

Feel for Luongo though, nasty defensive breakdown that allowed Phoenix to get their first goal and spoil his shutout bid.

Tonight marks the return of Ed Jovanovski to General Motors Place. Jovanovski was the longest serving of the four players the Canucks received from the Pavel Bure trade on January 17, 1999. I guess after signing Roberto Luongo, the Canucks couldn't afford to keep Jovanovski on the team. Considering...

Exactly.

Not saying players SHOULDN'T participate in "extra-curricular" competition, but really, aside from a little personal pride and honor, there's no real loss if they DON'T go.

Yeah, the thing is, it's still largely a popularity contest... how many "deserving" players will get "bumped" because the fans are voting for someone else who gets more press time, or is better-spoken dealing with the press, or is just plain cuter? The fact is, agents, scouts, an...

Heheh, yup, we did a LOT of grads (although '90 was a couple years before I was working with them).

Yeah, those only work if you have the VERY LATEST Flash player (and I mean VERY latest - I have a slightly earlier version of Flash 9 and they wouldn't play).

Holy smokes, that's TWO three-goal games in a row? Who are these guys, and what have they done with the Canucks? Alright, it was a loss, but from what I'm told, it was a pretty solid performance most of the way through, which is a nice change. (Didn't watch it myself, I was at the Giants game - 4-0 ...

Geez, you people sure are getting worked up over something that's for all intents and purposes, little more than a marketing gimmick to begin with... and I'm talking about the All-Star Game in general here. Maybe if the outcome meant something, like in MLB where, IIRC, the winning league gets home-f...

They still play the odd corporate show, far as I know, but for the most part they're all married, got kids, etc. - you know, they GREW UP - so the whole band thing is kinda pushed to the background. Thing with them was, they always all had "real" jobs and careers, so the band thing was mos...

A few years back my girlfriend and I forked over $200 bucks for a dinner and dance at the Vancouver Convention Centre. (Much insanity trimmed) Hmmm, I used to roadie for Wall Street, a local party band... I've worked a lot of those kinds of gigs, back in the day, when CFMI had their annual "Wo...

Formal just means you have to wear a tie... doesn't say you need a shirt under it.

It looks like the Giants are hitting a losing streak too. They were once invincible, now they are rather vulnerable. Four games in five days, they were completely out of gas by the end of Tuesday's game. Seemed to be a little better-rested tonight though, beating the Portland Winterhawks 6-1. Let's...
