Re: Argos Sold to MLSE

Yes.... not sure why Braley made that point as there is not just the Bruce suit which will go before the Supreme Court of Canada and a class action with Korey Banks and Eric Allen,

Re: QB James Franklin Traded to Argos

Overall good points. Great move for Argos and Franklin. If they do sign him for next year, what else will have they give up? Franklin just strengthened his bargaining position by being traded for two reasons: 1. He was never going to displace Esks starter and get more time. 2. Ricky Ray is closer to...

3downnation now reporting MW as lead HC candidate with Wally's endorsement as HC material
Well if Wally thinks he's HC material it's likely he isn't lol based on Wally's record.

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

The bottom line: In a normal situation Wally would retain VP role, hire Ed Hervey and let Ed hire his HC and coaching staff. Given that there's effectively no President, Wally would assume that role. Wally could mentor the new GM on how to deal with the owner, the President and fans and the media by...

Re: Washington 2nd frontrunner for Als Head Coaching Gig

Be careful what you wish for. For starters, there aren't a lot of top-notch assistants looking for work. Second, this is a transition year. Wally is a lame duck head coach. Any guy will consider the fact that Ed, a new coach, or a possible new owner - may put his own guys in place in 2019. Who want...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

Wally has hired two HC and both failed. Ed Hervey hired two HCs and both have done fine. One was a GC winner and left to run his own operation. Wally is past his best before date as HC and this market needs a change. I'm not disagreeing with you at all that Wally should not be HC but who available ...

Re: Football Operations: Ed Hervey - GM, Wally Buono - VP and HC

Originally (today) I was no Ed Hervey fan but in looking at his record in hiring two good HCs in Edmonton (Jones, Maas) and bringing in good talent starting with QB Mike Reilly and in the wings Franklin) this might work. I'm a convert like Paul on the road to Damascus. I want this to work and with W...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

I'll grant Hervey two things: 1. Selection of Jason Maas as HC has worked out not badly. 2. Getting Mike Reilly as QB not so bad either. Hiring Chris Jones and winning the grey cup was pretty good too. Odell Willis. Derel Walker. Otha Foster. Aaron Grymes. John White. James Franklin. The Eskimos ar...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

It's a bizarre structure. Wally is VP and reports to Braley because Braley doesn't want to trust someone new. Hervey as GM can fire Wally as head coach and overrule Wally's choice of assistant coaches. It's a recipe for disaster. Odd for sure but perhaps not a disaster in the waiting. If Hervey is ...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

Hervey scored some points when asked about Jonathon Jennings. He said Jennings is going to be the quarterback of the future but "the first priority is protecting the quarterback." Shouldn't the HC announce who his QB is? Watched some recorded video on Hervey on the Lions site and he's clearly lacki...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

“Wally was very clear during our discussions that I would be working from a clean slate as it relates to player personnel and football operations staff, but my first request of him was that he remain on as head coach for the 2018 season. He is unquestionably, the best person to lead our team on the...

Re: Football Operations: GM, Head Coach, Coaching Staff?

ED HERVEY IS GM and Wally HC for the next season. https://www.bclions.com/ https://www.bclions.com/2017/11/30/bc-lions-appoint-ed-hervey-gm-buono-coach-final-season-2018/ Good news for the potential buyers as Hervey is neither fan nor media friendly and comes with a huge sack of chips for both shoul...

Re: CIS Coverage - yes you can see it

I realize SFU is not in the CIS but I see his hiring was discussed here. Kelly Bates fired in another SFU Athletics dept WTF! decision. http://athletics.sfu.ca/news/2017/11/30/sfu-begins-search-for-new-head-coach-of-clan-football.aspx I posted this on their FB page in response to this decision. Re: CFL Season Should Start Earlier

People forget that the NFL have franchises in Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, New York and they're doing just fine in the cold weather. Heaven forbids, they even sometimes play in the snow and sleet. And Buffalo, Boston, Philly, Baltimore, Washington and out west in Seattle - all wintery weather. I'd ...

Re: Grey Cup Thread

I'm shocked that the Stamps seem to hang this loss on Jorden alone. Dickenson should have taken him aside when he held the bar up on his earlier TD - saw nothing that suggested a coach reminded him of ball protection versus celebrating early. Toronto players talked about protect the ball prior to th...
