Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Obviously, Montreal believed getting a future Hall of Famer, a CFL six seasons in a row CFL All-Star, and one one of the two best offensive lineman in Leos history was a good trade for a player that they didn't project as a starter for this season and wouldn't pay more than $80,000 for. Montreal was...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Jovan is a known quality of the highest order in the CFL. In a trade the winner would be the team that gets him. It could not be spun any other way. Of course other CFL teams are interested. It would be a steal of a Hall of Fame tackle who plays right or left tackle at All Star level, and is seemin...

Re: 2017 CFL Draft - What Players Will Our Leos Choose

http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/krown-countdown-u-march-22-1.703799 We have Scott Rintoul on in the last segment to talk Lions/CFL Draft. Interesting listen Jim. In reading Justin Dunk's mock draft, he has us taking defensive lineman Junior Luke at #3 and linebacker Christophe Mulumba...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Assuming that a trade happens, I think there will be a huge learning curve for an inexperienced left tackle, especially one coming from the NFL, given the prevalence of full scale blitz packages that are used/shown in the CFL. When the huddle breaks and it looks like you've got 12 defenders spread ...

Re: two questions

Thanks for your response WCJ. I am feeling real good about the lions offensive potential, assuming the o-line is up to snuff. I am not very good at evaluating o-line, so I was hoping for some insight. I have very high expectations of the rest of the offense and wondered if anyone else felt the same...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

The more I think about this the more I believe moving Olafioye is first and foremost motivated by a desire to change the OL ratio. Savings on the SMS may come out of it but I think that is secondary to what the trade might do for the ratio and the ripple effect in other parts of the depth chart. Th...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Thanks for posting Grid Iron Ernie. cfl.ca has an article titled: Report: Als close to Landing Six-time All-Star Olafioye Farhan also confirms: Farhan Lalji‏ #BCLions are confident they'll be able to get Foucault signed. Deal pending #Als approval of Olafioye's med records. Interesting stuff to say ...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

You make many great points Blitz, and I agree that Olafioye has been one of the strengths of the team since he arrived. He has been an outstanding Lion in all respects. Like many, I was surprised to hear his name come up in rumours. However, I will withhold judgement on a potential trade until I se...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

Thanks Hambone. As a fan, its always difficult to assess how well an offensive line plays. But statistics can give us a number of clues. Last season, 2016, our Lions led the CFLin rushing. Even taking out quarterback rushing (Jennings was second amongst CFL quarterbacks in rushing in 2016) our Leos ...

Re: Lions Running Attack 2017

The zone run can also benefit teams with a mobile qb, as it can open up the zone read with the qb reading the backside defensive end. If the end plays contain, and continues up the field, the qb hands the ball off, if the end crashes in, the qb keeps the ball and runs outside, as the end has broken...

Jonathan Jennings Second Full Season as a Starter

Jonathan Jennings will begin his second full season as a starter in 2017. Jennings, chosen by Jeff Tedford amongst 11 quarterback hopefuls in 2015, started the last 6 games for us in 2015 and demonstrated that he had something special. As Lowell Ullrich notes in an article posted below: The 24-year-...

Re: Lions Running Attack 2017

I understand the reservation, but you're so right WCJ, Willie the Wisp was/is indeed idolized, and head and shoulders above the many, and deservedly so. Especially by any among us who are now getting a bit long in the tooth (or by the young folk who've studied the archival footage.) And I, along wi...

Lions Running Attack 2017

A very interesting area of our Leos upcoming 2017 season will be our running attack. 2016 LEOS RUNNING GAME Last season our Leos led the CFL in rushing yard with 2,082 yards. We also led the CFL In rushing attempts and had the highest gain per rush at 5.6 yds. : In breaking down 2016 rushing: B.C. L...

Re: Jovan could be on his way out of the Den

I don't understand how the Lions are up against the Cap when they're paying their QB's $200k less than some other teams...and removed a $200k LB from the payroll? Why would Wally pay C. Williams a huge salary when we're already stocked at WR and have Rainey on ST who is under-utilized...especially ...

Re: 2017 CFL Draft - What Players Will Our Leos Choose

Wally has 3 high picks this year (#s 3, 7 & 16 i think). IMO, he should go: at #3 - a DT from a very good crop this year - a guy who could play right away and get some rotation work on the D-line - with Menard & maybe Forde - able to go with one NI on the D-line at all times; at #7 - could ...
