Re: How to rebuild
To use Bighill on most downs as a safety, from his linebacker position, was an experiment in craziness..and offences also knew we were doing that and exploited it game after game. There are many ways of preventing the deep ball, if you feel your defense is weak in that are, from personell to strate...

Re: Don`t Throw the Book at Tedford Yet
Cortez has proven time & time again he can't get it done. This is his 11th year as a OC in the CFL. He's won 4 cups during those years, most recently in 2013, in which the Riders scored 45 points in the final against Lionbackers' golden boy Kent Austin. In other words he's won the cup 40% of th...

Re: How to rebuild
I'm a fan of Cortez, who won the cup a mere 2 years ago and was fine last year until Sunseri became his best option at qb. Overall, coaching is not a weakness on this team. We mainly lose because of mistakes at crucial times from our young guys. I think there were Rider fans last year who would arg...

Re: How to rebuild
Then why is our defense playing so much better now that we have Roh outside, rather than inside, Minter inside with Brooks for a while now, and Westerman taking reps inside and now that we are blitzing more, using Bighill, Johnson, and Lee most often as blitzers and getting pressure on quarterbacks...

Re: How to rebuild
Sorry Cromartie, no backsliding from me in this thread. However, I did say in another thread that I would join the lynch mob if Leone starts this weekend, so I may have to eat my words soon. I'm a fan of Cortez, who won the cup a mere 2 years ago and was fine last year until Sunseri became his best ...

Re: How to rebuild
After 13 years in charge, I'm sure we can all point to things that Wally has done that didn't work out or that we didn't agree with. I'm predicting that we will be quite a bit better with or without Wally next year, and it will be primarily due to his foresight and making necessary changes.

Re: How to rebuild
Better to rebuild on the fly, like Jones in Edmonton right out of the gate in his first year, and Austin in Hamilton. Or to maintain excellence with a changing cast over the years, as with Hufnagel in Calgary. Not fair to compare our present team to teams of excellence? The best teams, with the bes...

Re: How to rebuild
Our win/loss record has been in constant decline since 2012. It is hard for many fans to see this current edition of the team as being anything other than a disaster. It is certainly not a smooth, professionally run rebuild. It is hard to justify, or explain away, or do a P.R. spin for a record of ...

Re: How to rebuild
As Blitz said, Huff and Trestman both knew how crucial play calling is and were slow to hand it over (I don't think Trestman ever did). Tedford doesn't even seem to have a say in the offence at all, which is bizarre beyond belief, because I know for myself, I would have had almost complete control ...

Re: How to rebuild
Expectations for Cortez were too high. To deliver a winning, exciting, innovative offense with a broken down qb while developing the next guy all at the same time and playing rookies all over? He's done well under the circumstances. Our offense is looking pretty exciting these days. Biggest reason f...

Re: How to rebuild
Should Tedford stay? I don't know, a lot would depend on what he has to say to the public after the season is completed and what happens to Wally. The fact is, if this Pee-Wee coaching staffing is allowed to continue into next season, the Lions will be LUCKY to get more than 10,000 season tickets, ...

Re: Lions @ Eskimos -- Blog, Post Game Stats and Comments
It's Jennings who has struggled in short yardage situations. Backups are used in these situations to reduce hits on the starter. Putting in McGhee was the right call. Who knows what the call was, sweep, pass, plunge, handoff, whatever. He fumbled before anything else could happen.

How to rebuild
The Lions are one of 5 teams currently rebuilding (along with Mtl, Sask, Wpg and Ott). The concensus on this board seems to be that our struggles are due to incompetence at the management level. I have a dissenting view. In my opinion, the ingredients of a successful rebuild are: 1. Recognizing prob...

Re: Lions at Esks Oct. 17, 2015 - Game Day Thread
So disappointing. The turning point was that BS QB sneak call and the drop by McGhee, although the INT by "The Golden One" Jennings was the final nail. Bah. Dammit!! I can't believe this is happening..... this is the 3rd, maybe 4th game I have watched the second half in a pub and they hav...

Re: How do the Lions get Fera on the roster?
The dilemma for the Lions is what do they need most. Field position ? Leone is your man with his booming kicks. Field goals/ converts ? Fera is probably your man but he's not a natural punter. I think that it's in both both Leone's and the teams best interests to give the guy a rest for awhile. He'...
