Re: When the Hell is this team going to be sold?!?!

The problem, as I've maintained for several years, is that more fans are choosing to stay home and watch games on their own HD screens, without dealing with the cost and congestion of public transit, traffic and parking. This is a broader issue for sports teams in general but the Lions may be at th...

Re: When the Hell is this team going to be sold?!?!

I think they may have over-estimated the "Buono effect" The Lions have consistently, under Skulsky's watch, over-estimated every effect. The move to Empire. The new BC Place stadium. What the public was willing to pay. Their new seating structure, concessions, promotions. Jeff Tedford. Th...

Re: Argos vs. Lions Game Day Thread

Man that building looks empty I don't attend games often (about once a year). I briefly considered heading downtown tonight, but traffic from the 'burbs on a Thursday? No thanks. Traffic is so bad two of the guests on the pregame show missed their segments because they were stuck in it. I imagine a...

Re: Ti-Cats vs. Lions Game Day Thread

O-line needs to make a statement out of the gate and not wait until the final drive like last week. Early success on the ground would be huge. I'm really hoping the Lions decide to run right over the Ticats today. I would love, love, love it if they came out double tight and ran out of the power I ...

Re: 2016 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

Why would the lions play there home opener on the weekend of the NHL draft when you know that is what 1040 is going to be talking about . They should have been on the road and Skulsky should have known this. 1040 always goes heavy with hockey talk at this time of year with the NHL draft this weeken...

Re: 2016 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

Hey all, I'm really hoping that the $5 kids promotion is going to be extended for the remainder of the season, but I think the Lions should be sly about unrolling it if they do continue. Their social media team should be shooting video for tweets and Facebook and whatnot like crazy during the Calgar...

Re: 2016 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

Hey all, Have you seen the BC Lions "Kid's Club"? This is just what the doctor ordered. http://www.bclions.com/kidsclub/ Some really fine work by the Lions there. I really hope the Lions are asking when kid's birthdays are when they sign up. An 'out of the blue' birthday card signed by a f...

Re: 2016 All Things Lions Marketing & Promotions

Hey all, The Dennis Skulsky interview that began this thread was a fantastic bit of radio, and the first interview I've ever heard him give where he didn't come across as tone-deaf. As many have pointed out, we've needed a kids section for years. We need to get families into the stadium and when the...

Re: All Aboard the Retirement Train!

Some people might say that CFL salaries are too low, but I think they're just fine. The money in other pro sports is a sign of a social illness, in my opinion. In the CFL, salaries are more commensurate with the sport's contribution to the good of society. I've always wondered why CFL teams don't m...

Programs from the 60s (and 80s)....

Hey all, I was camping in Coombs on the Island over the weekend and spotted a bunch of Lions' programs in an antique store. I snapped a bunch of photos on my phone (but they're too large to load here). If you're a collector, fire me a PM and I'll pass along the photos and contact info for the progra...

Re: Lions in the local media

Second reason is concussions. No responsible parent should allow their kids to play competitive football or contact hockey. Hockey could grow into a non-contact sport. Football can't. I don't care to watch soccer live or on TV, but my son is enrolled in minor soccer and will not be playing hockey o...

Re: 2016 U.S. Presidential Election Thread

Hey all, I really don't care what the Americans do, to be honest. My concern is how the election effects Canada. Regardless of which candidate or party wins, the result will be much the same north of the border. Trump is clearly the most entertaining candidate at the moment and I think he's likely t...

Re: Harris Won't Be Back...Pretty Much Official

Hey all, I was just reading the Andrew Harris thread over on the green forum, and the subject of needing a good NI backup in case he got injured quickly came up. That's been received wisdom for some time in the CFL --and it got me thinking, is this a problem? Canadian skill position players like Har...

Re: Who remembers...

Hey all, I was eight years old when Bill Bennett resigned in the spring of 1986, and I still recall being in my elementary school library when suddenly the school's intercom broadcast his resignation speech on --it would have had to have been CKNW 98 back then. Several of the teachers then opened th...
